Dr. Badar Khan Suri is a legally admitted visiting scholar with no criminal record, is not charged with a crime, and the obscure immigration provision used against him doesn't mandate detention. Yet ICE is holding him in Texas and has designated him a high-risk custody detainee. 1/

According to Yale Budget Lab, @vanhollen.senate.gov and @beyer.house.gov's 10% surtax on adjusted gross incomes above $1 million (or $2 million for joint filers) would raise close to $1.5 trillion over a decade.

Extremely humbling to be at the Job and Resource fair earlier today. A huge thank you to @beyer.house.gov for working with @alyia4alx.com and others on this. I am so proud to live somewhere that has responded so quickly to help so many people affected by all of these changes in our gov.

It’s tricky to guess when you have an unticketed event but our expectations for this jobs fair were around 300 people. It’s less than halfway through and we are approaching **two thousand** (2,000) people

Unidentified masked ICE Agents picking people up off the street or from their homes can create dangerous situations and contribute to a climate of fear. It undermines the public's trust in law enforcement and is reminiscent of police states. It must stop. beyer.house.gov/news/documen...

I just attended a hearing in federal court for my constituent, Dr. Badar Khan Suri, who was detained without charges and imprisoned without due process in Texas, far from his wife and young children. He is in America legally, a postdoctoral fellow at Georgetown.
My statement:

This afternoon @beyer.house.gov is attending a federal court hearing at the Eastern District of Virginia in Alexandria in the case of Suri vs. Trump, to show support for Dr. Badar Khan Suri
Pete Hegseth has to go too. No excuse at all to keep him in this job, he screwed up numerous times and is doing things anyone who serves under him would have been fired for. Any other president would fired someone this incompetent a long time ago.
Even his own supporters will not believe these flimsy excuses. Trump inherited a strong economy and is running it into the ground with stupid and disastrous tariffs, as Republicans in Congress refuse to stop him.

Trump had the worst stock market performance to start a presidency in 50 years. Recession forecasts are getting grim.
It's so bad that Trump is trying to blame others and distance himself from an economy he promised would ‘flourish’ ‘from this day forward' on January 20th. 3/
This report showed inflation rising even before we see the worst impacts of Trump’s tariffs.
Private sector hiring in April declined sharply. Consumer confidence fell to its lowest point in three decades.
Consumer expectations are worse than they were during the pandemic. 2/
