Today, I voted NO on the GENIUS Act.
With no amendment process, this bill will allow crypto ATM scams to continue at the expense of unsuspecting Americans. Conveniently, it also allows the President and his family to continue owning, issuing, and profiting off of stablecoins.
Ask Me Anything! I’m joining my fellow @democrats.senate.gov colleagues and going live on @senateinsession.bsky.social at 4:30pm ET / 3:30pm CT.
I introduced the Bicycles for Rural African Transport Act that would establish a program within USAID to promote mobility in rural communities using affordable, sustainable bicycles to support development.
A bike can go a long way in helping meet needs in health care, education, and women’s and girls’ empowerment.
Manhandling a Senator. Using unnecessary force. Separating families. Defying court orders.
Secretary Noem must come before the Senate Judiciary Committee and answer to this under oath.
The strong-arm tactics used against Sen. Padilla last week was not only shocking, it was also a dangerous breach of our Constitution.
I joined my Democratic colleagues in demanding accountability for the treatment of Sen. Padilla.
Crypto ATMs aren’t being “exploited” to facilitate fraud. Fraud is almost all they’re used for.
Scammers are targeting elderly Americans, sometimes wiping out their entire savings.
We must regulate crypto, and I’m saying so in Committee right now.
We need to hear from Attorney General Bondi and FBI Director Patel on what they’re doing to address political violence.
And we need to hear from Secretary Noem directly about the Trump Administration’s cruel and un-American campaign against immigrants.
The horrific assassinations in Minnesota and manhandling of my friend Senator Padilla demand immediate attention.
The Rock Island Arsenal plays an essential role for the economy of the Quad Cities and the readiness of our military.
I joined my IL & IA colleagues in sending a letter to Army Secretary Driscoll showing our support for the Arsenal and requesting a briefing on future plans.
This pathetic display of retribution tells America we are in the grips of a political leader who would penalize families with no record of serious crime.
America is better than that.
Donald Trump’s reaction to the nationwide No Kings protests is to target more immigrants in the cities with the largest crowds, like Chicago.
Another embarrassing example of how Donald Trump’s & Elon Musk’s DOGE actions were reckless, shortsighted, and haphazard.
While Donald Trump creates instability in our economy, Republicans are working to cut food & health care programs like SNAP and Medicaid.
The so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” will hurt hard working Americans to pay for tax cuts for billionaires.
Plain and simple.
Violence and hate have NO place in America. Leaders on both sides of the aisle must speak out and condemn these violent acts, which go against everything this country stands for.
Absolutely sickened to hear of the assassination and attempted assassination of two Minnesota state lawmakers and their spouses in their homes last night. Loretta and I are praying for them and their families.
Since 2012, more than 825,000 people have participated in the DACA program.
They’re police officers, teachers, nurses, and Americans in every way except for immigration status.
They contribute $140 BILLION in spending power to our economy, as well as $40 BILLION in taxes.
Resume DACA processing.
It’s time to start providing this relief to Dreamers again.
Anti-immigrant extremists have attacked DACA since the day President Obama established the program, trying to tie it up in the courts.
But DACA is overwhelmingly successful, and a judge recently opened the door for the Administration to resume processing applications.
472,000 Illinoisans would be at risk of losing some of their SNAP benefits because of the Republicans' so-called Big Beautiful Bill.
Republicans are taking food off the table of working families to give the wealthiest Americans a tax break.
It's unconscionable.
