The strong-arm tactics used against my colleague and friend, Senator Alex Padilla, in response to his peaceful conduct should convince all of us that the Administration’s goal is about more than deporting dangerous immigrants. They are determined to suppress even peaceful dissent.
BREAKING: House Republicans just passed President Trump’s senseless clawbacks of funding already approved by Congress for public broadcasting and foreign aid. These cuts will strip funding for principled, local journalism and our national security interests.
It is unacceptable and un-American to manhandle and handcuff a United States Senator who was simply doing his job. We need immediate answers from law enforcement about what happened, and there must be assurances from the Administration that this will never happen again.
This bill would finally pierce the broad immunity granted by Section 230 and open the courtroom to victims of online child sexual exploitation, as well as bolster protections and resources for survivors.
I’m proud to have worked with Democrats and Republicans alike to highlight the failures of Big Tech and draft commonsense proposals like our STOP CSAM Act to put kids’ safety first.
BIG NEWS. The STOP CSAM Act just advanced unanimously out of committee! This is a momentous step toward finally holding Big Tech accountable for harm it has caused kids and families.
Failed U.S. Attorney nominee Ed Martin is already pledging to further undermine trust in the Justice Department. He’s wrongly advocating that Trump pardon his supporters and donors, Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, and violent criminals. It’s a disgrace.
I am proud to represent the thousands of Ukrainian Americans that call Illinois home. I welcomed IL members of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America in my office to discuss this Administration’s failure to end the war in Ukraine and the need to pass a strong Russia sanctions bill.
After Ed Martin’s failed nomination to be U.S. Attorney for D.C., President Trump installed him in non-Senate-confirmed roles at DOJ. He’s promising to abuse his power to help President Trump’s friends while punishing his enemies. Once again, I’m pressing Attorney General Bondi on his conduct.
You heard it here. Donald Trump’s so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” will raise electricity prices for Illinoisans to line Big Oil’s pockets. It is a big, beautiful betrayal to the American people.
Men and women in uniform put their lives on the line for our country. In return, the Trump Administration slashed defense medical research that helps address the physical and mental injuries from their years of service. Shameful.
Today, I met with Army Secretary Driscoll and Chief of Staff General George to discuss the role Rock Island Arsenal plays in our nation’s military readiness and in the economy of the Quad Cities region. I’ll continue to protect the Arsenal’s workforce and workload.
The freedom of speech, the right to due process, and the separation of powers are foundational to our country. The Trump Administration is attacking all of it with their cruel abuse of immigrants. I’m hosting a spotlight forum now to call it out.
For-profit colleges have avoided accountability for defrauding students by forcing them to give up their right to go to court. I introduced the CLASS Act with Rep. Maxine Waters to allow students cheated by for-profit colleges to have their day in court.
As the proud son of an immigrant, I know that immigration makes America stronger. We established DACA almost thirteen years ago, but Congress must provide a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers. I’m standing with lawmakers, advocates, and DACA recipients with a simple message. Pass the Dream Act.
The best “intentions” of 23andMe don’t mean much. I care about protecting our most sensitive information from misuse. We need stronger federal privacy laws.
Sen. DURBIN: There’s little to guarantee the next buyer won’t abuse your consumer protection policy, right? Interim 23andMe CEO: *canned statement* Durbin: Three buyers removed, your best intentions don’t mean much. Do they? CEO: I can’t testify to future intentions.
