Joined The Salvation Army North and Central Illinois Division leadership to discuss their efforts to provide critical social services to the Chicago community. I’ll continue to advocate for federal support that assists community-focused organizations like the Salvation Army.
With instability continuing in challenging corners of the globe, now, more than ever, we need America’s top diplomats engaged—not ceding our leadership to China and Russia.
I'm particularly concerned over plans to target human rights programs and others focused on war crimes and democracy. I will continue to monitor these 'reforms' closely.
The Trump Admin is now going after the State Department—a department that executes our foreign policy goals, maintains our alliances around the world, and promotes the long-term security of the United States.
President Trump’s pro-polluter agenda is destroying the progress we’ve made to protect our environment and raising your energy bills along the way. Earth Day reminds us to take care of this beautiful planet we call home for future generations to enjoy.
Service members deserve accountability, especially when the Secretary is putting them at risk. The Attorney General should immediately appoint a special counsel to investigate Secretary Hegseth’s security breaches. Why should this recklessness get a free pass?
Firing senior leadership who fail his “loyalty” test. Leaking war plans. Planning top-secret briefings on China for Elon Musk. Endangering the lives of our service members. Sec. Hegseth is reckless with our national security. He is not fit to lead our Department of Defense.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth posted sensitive details about a strike against the Houthis in another Signal chat that included his wife, brother and personal lawyer
Trump's own former Pentagon staffer and a personal friend of Sec. Hegseth described the last month as "total chaos at the Pentagon." Our government is not a playground. Sec. Hegseth is a danger to our national security, and it is time for him to step down.
John Ullyot, who resigned from the Pentagon last week, described a department in collapse. He accused Hegseth’s team of “falsehoods” about why three top officials were fired last week, saying they hadn’t leaked sensitive information to the media.
Without emergency intervention from the Supreme Court, it appears the Trump Administration planned to unlawfully deport more individuals to a notorious prison in El Salvador without due process. And the President has suggested he could deport others—including U.S. citizens.
We should honor the Pope with a "Francis Day" of world peace: stop the bombing in Ukraine and Gaza; feed the dying in Sudan and around the globe; and show kindness to one another.
We have lost the messenger, but we must hold fast to the message of Pope Francis to love and respect one another. In a world of hate and fear, Pope Francis’ message of peace and understanding is needed now more than ever.
My prayers are with the Florida State University community as police respond to another school shooting. Students should be celebrating the end of the school year approaching… not evacuating campus to process the aftermath of gun violence.
The Trump Administration wants to cut our health agencies by 30%. What does this mean? - Decimating medical research - Less inspections of food facilities - Ending HIV/AIDS initiatives - Abuse and Mental Health Services won't be funded This will hurt Americans.
This is incredibly concerning. Not only did Ed Martin fail to report 150+ appearances on Russian state media… he did so as recently as last year while Russia was actively bombing Ukraine. We need to hear from Ed Martin under oath.
