Martin Heinrich

Martin Trevor Heinrich is an American politician serving as the senior United States senator from New Mexico, a seat he has held since 2013. A member of the Democratic Party, Heinrich served as the U.S. representative from New Mexico's 1st congressional district from 2009 to 2013. He and fellow senator Ben Ray Luján are the co-deans of New Mexico's congressional delegation.

If Republicans have their way, thousands of New Mexicans will face increased health insurance costs. My constituents deserve a government funding bill that protects them from these unsustainable price hikes and I won’t settle for anything less.

Health care expenses represent one of the largest financial burdens for American families. The healthcare tax credit helps make these essential services more affordable and accessible. Extending this tax credit would provide much-needed stability and predictability for families like mine who rely on it to help manage their health care costs.

Every successful government funding effort has one thing in common: good faith, bipartisan negotiations. Trump refusing to negotiate makes a government shutdown very likely. This will be Trump’s shutdown plain and simple.

First, Republicans slashed Medicaid. Now, they are screwing with health care premiums. We should be permanently extending health care tax credits for working families. Enough with Republicans’ games and rising costs.
Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House. If the government shuts down, it's because they chose to shut it down rather than negotiate a bipartisan budget that serves the American people.
