The January 6th insurrection will always haunt me. It was a dark day in our country’s history, & its architects must be held accountable. Still, as we commit to this continuing work, we also need to lift up the lessons and legacy of January 7th.
These insurrectionists had 1 goal: to accomplish with force what they failed at the ballot box, but they were no match for the bravery of the U.S. Capitol Police officers, D.C. Metro Police officers, National Guardsmen, & Capitol staff who defended our democracy that day.
Three years ago today, I witnessed rioters breaking police lines to violently force their way into the Capitol. These rioters would go on to attack & injure a number of U.S Capitol Police officers. Instigated & directed by Pres Trump, more than 2,000 rioters entered the Capitol.

San Juan Regional Medical Center is doing lifesaving work and 100% earned its recent award for heart attack care from the American Heart Association. Grateful for the visit today to discuss workforce development needs and my Pathway to Health Careers Act.
The Farmington community and Pastor Rebecca Morgan have welcomed Ukrainian families fleeing Putin’s invasion. The stories of what these families fled is harrowing and it was an honor to meet with them today.
Mature & old-growth forests remove climate pollution, store carbon, safeguard clean water, & protect wildlife habitat. The Biden Admin’s proposed, approach will proactively protect these forests, including the old growth areas of the Gila National Forest. nmpoliticalreport.com/quick-reads/...
I introduced the Pathways to Apprenticeships Act to expand access to training programs and apprenticeships as early as high school – lifting-up New Mexico’s families, addressing rising workforce shortages, and growing our state’s economy.
Our actions on climate change now will determine the kind of future our kids will inherit. We cannot afford to wait. My New Year’s Resolution is to continue fighting for solutions that take on climate change while creating new pathways to careers that New Mexicans can build their families around.
This has been a landmark year for AI. As we head into 2024, I'm focused on working with my colleagues in Congress to set the right guardrails around this technology to make sure these rapid advancements are a benefit to society, not a threat.
2023 was the best kind of busy: Intro’d 44 bills, Cosponsored 125+ Responded to 130,000+ letters Secured Senate support for $144M for local NM projects Visited with thousands of New Mexicans Assisted nearly 2,400 people in casework - resulting in $30M+ recovered for NM
The American Climate Corps is an investment in the next generation and a vital step toward fighting climate change. I look forward to working with the EPA to make sure young people in New Mexico can access every opportunity this will create. www.epa.gov/newsreleases...
