After voting against GOP budget to decimate Medicaid, stopped by #HandsOff rally in DC w/ @whitehouse.senate.gov before heading home to RI. Thanks to Americans across the country who joined us today to oppose Trump-Musk attacks on our democracy, economy, & public services.
To show how serious, strategic, & well-thought out this White House is, Trump imposed tariffs on islands near Antarctica inhabited only by penguins, marine mammals, and birds.
“The Trump Tariff Tax is the largest peacetime tax hike in U.S. history” and “will cost American families over $3,500 per year.” Don’t take my word for it. That’s straight from Republican source.
Once again, congressional Republicans have a choice: They can break with Trump like a few of their colleagues did last night or choose Trump’s price-hiking tariffs that will increase costs for Americans in all 50 states.
Pres. Trump just unilaterally implemented what will likely become the biggest tax hike on Americans since World War II. U.S. consumers in all 50 states will have to pay more for Trump’s national sales tax.
What’s shocking about this story is that Elon Musk clearly has no idea how Social Security works, yet Pres. Trump put him in charge of trying to dismantle Social Security & deny people retirement benefits they earned. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...
I support tougher border security & fixing our broken immigration system. But the Trump Admin. is more interested in security theater than effective solutions: he’s wasting $40 MILLION on a dubious GTMO facility to process fewer than 400 people.
Just got off the Senate floor with @booker.senate.gov. He’s been at it for over 20 hours straight – urging commonsense action to make our nation stronger, safer & healthier. Instead of cutting effective programs like LIHEAP, we should strengthen and uplift people & communities.
REED: Trump tells a story about speaking to you while you were serving in Iraq, & you said you loved him & 'I'll kill for you, sir.' He said you then put on a MAGA hat. Is any of this story true? CAINE: I went back & listened to those tapes & I think POTUS was actually talking about somebody else
UPDATE: AG @peterneronha.bsky.social filed a lawsuit challenging the termination of these grants for Rhode Island. Pres. Trump is taking a wrecking ball to America’s public health infrastructure & states across the country are fighting back.
For the last 17+ hours & counting, @booker.senate.gov has been speaking from the heart about the negative, destabilizing impact Pres. Trump’s policies are inflicting on Americans' financial well-being & the very foundations of our democracy. We are with you, Cory. Keep going!
I’ve taken the Senate floor and will speak for as long as I’m physically able to lift the voices of Americans who are being harmed and not being heard in this moment of crisis. Watch here:
