Bernard Sanders

Bernard "Bernie" Sanders is an American politician and activist serving as the senior United States senator from Vermont, a seat he has held since 2007. He is the longest-serving independent in U.S. congressional history, but maintains a close relationship with the Democratic Party, having caucused with House and Senate Democrats for most of his congressional career and sought the party's presidential nomination in 2016 and 2020. Sanders has been viewed as one of the main leaders of the modern American progressive movement.

When Mr. Musk, the wealthiest man alive & major campaign contributor, expresses strong distaste for Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill, Republicans will listen & obey. That means more cuts to Medicaid, nutrition & education. The oligarchs want it ALL. We’re not going to let that happen.
Speaker Johnson says there's “a moral component” to Trump's "big, beautiful" bill. Really?   Is it “moral” to cut nutrition assistance for hungry kids?   Is it “moral” to eliminate health care for 13.7 million Americans so the 1% gets a $664 billion tax break? I don’t think so.
The Republican reconciliation bill which makes massive cuts to Medicaid in order to pay for huge tax breaks for billionaires is not just bad public policy. It is not just immoral. It is a death sentence for struggling Americans.
According to Yale University and the University of Pennsylvania, 51,000 additional Americans will die each year if Trump’s ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ is passed.
The recent antisemitic attack in Boulder is disgraceful and unacceptable. We must all condemn it in the strongest terms and wish a rapid recovery to those injured. Violence only begets violence, and we must allow no place for it in our politics.
Let me congratulate the SEIU nurses at Meriter Hospital in Madison, WI for winning a 10% pay raise & a strong contract to improve the health & safety of patients after courageously waging a 5-day strike. You have proven, once again, that when workers fight for justice, they win.
Union at Meriter claims victory as nurses ratify new contract, end strike. @erikgunn.bsky.social has the details.
The combination of Oligarchy, authoritarianism and Big Tech are an extraordinary threat to democracy and the future of humanity. We must not allow Musk, Trump, Mohammed bin Salman and other Oligarchs shape the future of our world.
"After Jamal’s murder, the West recoiled from dealing openly with MBS’s Saudi Arabia," @karenattiah.bsky.social writes. "But now, many of America’s richest men and most powerful leaders are back in MBS’s embrace." wapo.st/4mBMIID
Trump’s war on workers and immigrants continues. These dragnet raids aren’t about enforcing the law or upholding the constitution — they are meant to instill fear. We must stand together to protect due process and workers.
Mother Jones was a fearless fighter for workers’ rights, responsible for organizing miners across the US. We visited her birthplace in Cork, Ireland, to honor her tireless struggle with the working poor. Solidarity forever.
Medicare for All means Medicare for ALL — not some, or a few, or most. Health care is a human right. Every other major country recognizes that. It's long past time the United States does as well.
As Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill moves to the Senate, we must make it clear: There is nothing “beautiful” about giving huge tax breaks to billionaires while cutting health care, nutrition and education for working families. It is grossly immoral and, together, we must defeat it.
In Germany, France, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Iceland, public colleges are tuition free or virtually tuition free. Their governments understand the value of investing in their young people. So should we.
This Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives in service to our country. We will never forget their strength and dedication, and we stand united in supporting their families and loved ones.
If the working people of the world stand together, there is nothing they cannot accomplish. It was good to be at the @tressellfest.bsky.social as we discuss building a global economy that works for all, not just the few.
Medicare for All isn't radical. What's radical is that we are the only major country not to guarantee health care as a human right. Don’t believe me? Listen to what these nurses have say:
Joyce Wolford is alive today because of a cutting-edge NIH study. Trump officials cut $2.7 BILLION from NIH funding in the first three months of this year. The American people do not want us to slash lifesaving research to give tax breaks to billionaires.
I stand in solidarity with the nearly 1000 SEIU Meriter Hospital nurses in Madison, WI who are rightfully demanding fair pay, safe staffing ratios & improved safety measures. After over twenty bargaining sessions, Meriter Hospital needs to get serious and reach a contract now.
