Bernard Sanders

Bernard "Bernie" Sanders is an American politician and activist serving as the senior United States senator from Vermont, a seat he has held since 2007. He is the longest-serving independent in U.S. congressional history, but maintains a close relationship with the Democratic Party, having caucused with House and Senate Democrats for most of his congressional career and sought the party's presidential nomination in 2016 and 2020. Sanders has been viewed as one of the main leaders of the modern American progressive movement.

Lincoln talked about a government of the people, by the people, for the people. Today, with Trump as our president, we have a government of the billionaires, by the billionaires, for the billionaires.
Cutting off humanitarian aid to millions of civilians is a war crime. That is exactly what the extremist Netanyahu government is doing now to Palestinians in Gaza. I’ve introduced resolutions to block billions in offensive arms sales to Israel & will demand votes on these bills.
Mr. Musk plans to layoff 83,000 workers at the VA. That means lower quality care for our vets. Unacceptable. I agree with the VFW: The VA must “reconsider its planned reduction of 83,000 employees & thoroughly review any proposed cuts prior to rolling out further announcements.”
Elon Musk's plan to cut the Social Security Administration's staff by 50% would cause 37,000 more Americans to die each year waiting to receive their disability benefits while the average wait time to collect these benefits would jump to 412 days. That is beyond unacceptable.
The massive income and wealth inequality that exists in America today is literally a matter of life and death. People in wealthy counties live SEVEN years longer than people in poorer communities. That’s unacceptable. EVERYONE has the right to a long, happy and productive life.
I have talked to veterans all over the country. They’re not happy that, when the VA is already understaffed, Musk wants to dismember the VA by laying off 83,000 employees. A commitment has been made to those who put their lives on the line to defend us. We must not betray them.
Trump and Musk are going after Social Security, Medicaid, the VA, and public education. In what universe, in what world, in what religion is it morally acceptable to cut programs for hungry children in order to reward the wealthy?
Musk says millions of dead people get Social Security. That's a lie. Here's the truth: 30,000 people die a year waiting for an understaffed Social Security to approve disability benefits. Musk's plan to cut Social Security's staff by 50% will make this tragic reality even worse.
Musk and Trump are working feverishly to cut Social Security, Medicaid, the VA, public education, nutrition and other programs. Why? So Musk and other billionaires can get a huge tax break. Together, we’re not going to let them get away with that.
Great to meet with VFW members from Vermont. These are the men and women who put their lives on the line to defend our country. We are proud of them and what they've done. No cuts to the VA. No privatization.
When Trump effectively shuts down the NLRB, corporate bosses can illegally fire workers who are trying to form a union and flagrantly violate labor laws. Today, I am reintroducing the PRO Act to strengthen unions, and restore power and legal rights to workers.
Trump wants to fire 83k VA workers, many of whom are veterans themselves, decimating the VA & making it harder for veterans to get health care & benefits. When Americans put their lives on the line to defend our country, we must keep our commitments to them — not betray them.
At a time when the Social Security Administration is grossly understaffed, Trump plans to lay off up to 50% of its employees. Outrageous. This will make it HARDER for Americans to get the services they need. This is clearly a step toward the privatization of Social Security.
Elon Musk and Donald Trump’s dismantling of USAID will lead to millions of preventable deaths. The decision of the richest person in the world to destroy an agency that delivers life-saving aid to the poorest people on the planet is unconscionable.
For 250 years, the United States has supported democracy. Now, in the middle of a horrific war that Putin started, Trump is turning his back on Ukraine and democracy, all to the benefit of a brutal dictator in Moscow.
Late tonight, I will deliver a response to President Trump's Congressional Address. NO to Oligarchy. NO to Authoritarianism. YES to Democracy and an economy that works for all. I hope you'll join us.
Netanyahu’s extremist government has halted ALL humanitarian aid into Gaza. Starving children is a war crime. UN leaders said: "International humanitarian law is clear: we must be allowed access to deliver vital lifesaving aid. We need to get aid in and the hostages out.”
No. Now is not the time to play dead. The Democrats have already played dead for too many years. 60% of our people are living paycheck to paycheck. Millions of seniors are going hungry. Now is the time to stand up for the working class of this country.
Meet Trump's new best friend, Vladimir Putin. At the heart of Putin’s rule are two forces: corruption & violence. In Putin's Russia, there is no freedom of speech. Protests are violently suppressed. Dissidents are murdered. And the billionaire oligarchs become even richer.
