Today, I’m joining a bipartisan effort to support the State of Michigan’s request for a federal Small Business Administration disaster declaration following the devastating tornadoes in Southwest Michigan this past March.
I take signing on to bills seriously, so this project is not just for fun. The interns do extensive research and outreach to make sure it’s a win for Michigan and aligns with my record. And this year, these interns stepped up to the plate and killed it.
It's one of my favorite times of the year — Pitch Week! My interns in my Washington D.C. and Michigan offices participated in our legislative version of 'Shark Tank'. A tall task, where each intern briefs a bill they believe I should co-sponsor.
We discussed how the economy is affecting their workers, and the fight for fair wages and good benefits. Labor unions built this country and as Michigan’s Senator, I have their backs.
Last week was busy meeting with Michiganders across our building trades unions who were in Washington, D.C. I met the Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council, along with affiliates from @smart-union.bsky.social, @ibewinternational.bsky.social, Operating Engineers, and others.
