My theory of the case is something I never imagined saying. I believe Trump is reshaping the country to hold on to power.
Trump is following the same playbook as almost every authoritarian in history.
Special thanks to Linda Ried for donating this beautiful 68-foot spruce in honor of her grandparents, Lawrence & Nettie Richey, and to the Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association and Michigan Association of Timbermen for making it happen.
Congratulations to Sault Ste. Marie on being selected for Michigan’s 2025 state Christmas tree - the third time SSM has earned this honor! 🎄
A couple from Warren will see their monthly cost increase from $800 to $2100 a month.

In my Intel Briefing this week, we hit three big things:
1️⃣Shutdown update, open enrollment at healthcare.gov and how the Administration is withholding SNAP funding.
2️⃣An update on the President's visit to China
3️⃣President Trump openly floating a third term

Slotkin, a Holly Democrat, spoke to The News this week about efforts to negotiate an off-ramp to the standoff in Congress.
I want to be perfectly clear. SNAP does not have to expire. There's a contingency fund for SNAP that was set up to prevent this. The Trump Administration could solve this today. Instead, they are using food as a political weapon.
Most Americans don’t like to see troops in our streets against the will of local authorities. My bill allows the Senate to do something about it.

Sen. Slotkin: “The president and Secretary Hegseth are refusing to tell the American people who we are fighting…I think it's safe to say that the American people deserve to know who we are at war with, especially if people are being killed in our name.”
The President should never use SNAP as a political weapon. It’s beyond the pale. I would vote on a Republican bill to fund SNAP today.

The healthcare.gov website is now open for Michiganders to see 2026 plans. Many are seeing prices dramatically increase.

Sen. Elissa Slotkin warns that President Trump's actions resemble those of historical authoritarians, as she speaks at the Brookings Institution's 2025 Knight Forum on Geopolitics.
There is a health crisis hitting Michiganders because of what this President has done. From Dexter to Dearborn Heights, people are receiving letters that their health insurance will go up.
If the President wants this done, he can get it done in 72 hours. He’s the Art of the Deal guy.

U.S. Sen. Elissa Slotkin sounded an alarm bell, characterizing President Trump’s actions as “following the same playbook as almost every authoritarian in history,” in a speech the Democrat from Holly gave at the Brookings Institution on Wednesday.
Story from @kdailey.bsky.social
I believe that Trump is ready to bring the full weight of the government against Americans he perceives as enemies. Why? Because he has one goal: making sure he and his ilk never have to give up power.
Watch my speech on President Trump's authoritarian playbook.
