Trump's illegal tariffs are nothing more than a backdoor, national sales tax on the American people — all to help pay for the giant tax cut he gave his billionaire buddies. It's the ultimate betrayal, and SCOTUS should make clear it's unconstitutional.
Trump politicizing law enforcement in Baltimore does nothing to improve public safety. We've boosted the number of FBI, DEA and ATF agents in Baltimore and always welcome more support in coordination with local law enforcement. Trump’s bloviating and theatrics are a distraction. Full statement:
On Labor Day, we celebrate the extraordinary progress unions have delivered for worker rights, fair pay and so much more. As collective bargaining rights are under attack from the Trump Admin, I won’t stop fighting for the unions and workers that form the backbone of our economy.
In 2024 Sen. Merkley & I visited the Rafah gate on the Egypt-Gaza border. On the other side was Gaza’s thriving city of Rafah—home to 270K. Today we saw it reduced to rubble. The Netanyahu govt has gone beyond targeting Hamas to waging a war of destruction against all Palestinians. It must end.
Netanyahu is restricting aid trucks into Gaza—the best way to get food to starving people there—so Jordan is delivering some with air drops. The Jordanians said @merkley.senate.gov & I could join one of those flights to see the devastation, but Israel denied authorization for our scheduled flight.
Electricity bills are already too high. And when Marylanders’ costs go up even further, they will have Donald Trump to thank for it. This is part of his gift to Big Oil companies, who want to kill competition from clean energy. We will fight back.
As the humanitarian disaster in Gaza continues, we cannot look away from rising Israeli settler violence in the West Bank. @merkley.senate.gov and I met families of Americans killed there and visited a town subjected to attacks. Illegal settlements and violence MUST end.
Trump’s claim that he'd stand up for workers was always a lie. He has consistently attacked the right to organize — even the already very limited rights of federal workers. More of the same from Don the Con. We will fight back in the courts.
This week @merkley.senate.gov and I returned to Kfar Aza — a kibbutz brutally attacked by Hamas on Oct 7. We witnessed the evidence of the atrocities committed that day and saw the homes of two young men still held hostage. The message from a kibbutz leader: Bring them home and end the war.
I visited Kerem Shalom, one of the two main crossings between Israel and Gaza, where @merkley.senate.gov and I pointed out that the so-called Gaza Humanitarian Foundation's delivery system is fatally flawed. People are starving. The Netanyahu government must let more food into Gaza NOW.
So much for The Art of the Deal. Weeks after Trump’s failed meeting with Putin, Russia continues to escalate its brutal attacks on Ukraine. Trump is getting conned and played by Putin — and the Ukrainian people are paying the price.
The message @merkley.senate.gov and I heard from the hostage families we met with in Tel Aviv was as simple as it was powerful: bring them home and end the war NOW. They told us that Netanyahu has prioritized his political survival over the lives of their loved ones.
@merkley.senate.gov and I were just in Israel to discuss the situation in Gaza and press to end the war and return all the hostages. We visited a World Food Program site in Israel with enough food to feed everyone in Gaza for 3 weeks. The Netanyahu government's weaponization of hunger must stop.
My heart breaks for the families in Minneapolis who are living an unimaginable nightmare, and I’m praying for all those who are injured. We cannot accept living in a country where kids get shot while going to church before school. The senseless gun violence must end.
With the worst of hurricane season still ahead, Trump and his cronies’ dismantling of FEMA has gutted the agency’s ability to respond to disasters and keep people safe. These brave FEMA employees tried to sound the alarm, so naturally Trump is punishing them. Beyond shameful.
Trump and his DOGE minions didn’t just make it harder for people to access their Social Security benefits — they also compromised sensitive data for millions.
They took a chainsaw to the Social Security Administration and Americans are paying the price.
