A dangerous moment for all who believe in civil liberties and the rights of individuals. SCOTUS, w/out explanation, just green lit the Trump Admin’s racial profiling. Detaining people based on their ethnicity is unconstitutional & un-American. Another shameful decision by this Trump-stacked Court.
This Trump-packed Supreme Court is ramping up its reckless practice of providing ZERO rationale for striking down orders from appellate courts that rein in lawless acts by the Trump Admin. Calling this ‘temporary’ doesn’t change the reality: they are enabling authoritarianism.
Surprise, surprise: Trump’s White House wants to get rid of the watchdog that holds the executive branch accountable to the American people on critical budget issues. They don’t like anything with “Accountability” in the job description.   We cannot stand for this. No Kings.
So Trump illegally withheld funds right up to the 9/30 deadline and now claims there’s no time to spend them? Like setting the house on fire and arguing there's no time to put it out.   This is such a pathetic argument that even *this* SCOTUS might flinch (not holding my breath).
Trump said he was the candidate for peace and promised to end the wars in Ukraine and Gaza on Day One. Now he wants to rename the Department of Defense the Department of War. Sure doesn’t sound like a guy committed to keeping America out of wars. Another hoax from Don the Con.
Trump's illegal tariffs are nothing more than a backdoor, national sales tax on the American people — all to help pay for the giant tax cut he gave his billionaire buddies. It's the ultimate betrayal, and SCOTUS should make clear it's unconstitutional.
Trump politicizing law enforcement in Baltimore does nothing to improve public safety. We've boosted the number of FBI, DEA and ATF agents in Baltimore and always welcome more support in coordination with local law enforcement. Trump’s bloviating and theatrics are a distraction. Full statement:
On Labor Day, we celebrate the extraordinary progress unions have delivered for worker rights, fair pay and so much more. As collective bargaining rights are under attack from the Trump Admin, I won’t stop fighting for the unions and workers that form the backbone of our economy.
In 2024 Sen. Merkley & I visited the Rafah gate on the Egypt-Gaza border. On the other side was Gaza’s thriving city of Rafah—home to 270K. Today we saw it reduced to rubble. The Netanyahu govt has gone beyond targeting Hamas to waging a war of destruction against all Palestinians. It must end.
Netanyahu is restricting aid trucks into Gaza—the best way to get food to starving people there—so Jordan is delivering some with air drops. The Jordanians said @merkley.senate.gov & I could join one of those flights to see the devastation, but Israel denied authorization for our scheduled flight.
Electricity bills are already too high. And when Marylanders’ costs go up even further, they will have Donald Trump to thank for it. This is part of his gift to Big Oil companies, who want to kill competition from clean energy. We will fight back.
As the humanitarian disaster in Gaza continues, we cannot look away from rising Israeli settler violence in the West Bank. @merkley.senate.gov and I met families of Americans killed there and visited a town subjected to attacks. Illegal settlements and violence MUST end.
Trump’s claim that he'd stand up for workers was always a lie. He has consistently attacked the right to organize — even the already very limited rights of federal workers. More of the same from Don the Con. We will fight back in the courts.
This week @merkley.senate.gov and I returned to Kfar Aza — a kibbutz brutally attacked by Hamas on Oct 7. We witnessed the evidence of the atrocities committed that day and saw the homes of two young men still held hostage. The message from a kibbutz leader: Bring them home and end the war.
