It would have extended grants and forgivable loans to low- and moderate-income homeowners for critical home repairs, which would preserve existing affordable housing and keep folks in their homes.
A lot of issues to construction are local – this bill would have helped localities develop best-practice zoning and land-use frameworks to help overcome barriers to new housing construction.
The bill would have helped communities convert vacant buildings into affordable homes – including abandoned hotels, warehouses, and strip malls – which would create more housing more quickly and at a lower cost.
House Republicans just tanked a bipartisan piece of federal legislation to lower housing costs. I want to highlight just some of what was in this critical bill and why this is such a loss for Americans.
I know firsthand from my mother’s own battle with Alzheimer’s how hard this disease hits families. I’m wishing Andy and his family the best as they navigate his dad’s diagnosis. There’s so much more we can and should do to support families in this position.
A few weeks ago, my dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. I won’t lie—it's been incredibly challenging for me and my family. Now, I’m embarking on a journey to answer the questions so many of us face when it comes to providing care for our loved ones. I hope you’ll join me.
Months after killing Democrats’ plan to extend tax credits that lower the cost of YOUR insurance, Republicans still have NO plan to prevent YOUR premiums from skyrocketing. While millions of Americans are about to see their costs increase, Republicans are twiddling their thumbs.
Unbelievable – House Republicans just killed the first broadly bipartisan housing affordability bill, which would have been a great first step towards lowering skyrocketing rents & mortgages. Republicans are actively torpedoing progress towards lowering your rent.
Wonderful to welcome kids from Woodburn Elementary School to see my office and decorate my Christmas tree today. At the end of the day, everything I do in the Senate is about building a better and stronger country for them to grow up in. Happy holidays, Virginia!
Judges shape the future of our country. That’s why I’ve voted against all of Trump’s judicial nominees so far. And I’ll keep doing that until he nominates qualified, impartial jurists.
While Trump uses the presidency to enrich himself and pardon convicted drug traffickers, Virginians struggle with rising costs and a sputtering job market. When is Trump going to do anything to help anyone but himself and his cronies?
Well, an independent investigation now confirms it: Hegseth endangered the lives of American pilots during Signalgate. Our servicemembers deserve leaders who never put them at unnecessary risk. If Hegseth had a shred of decency, he’d resign.
Trump’s comments on Somalis are senseless and cruel. This kind of dangerous rhetoric fuels violence. What a sad state of affairs that another hateful rant by the President of the United States passes by without any sort of loud pushback from his Republican colleagues.
Trump says that affordability “doesn’t mean anything to anybody.” I think the millions of Americans who can’t afford groceries, energy, housing, and health care because of his policies would disagree.
And while Trump pretends to care about the international drug trade… he’s just freed the former Honduran president and convicted drug trafficker who helped smuggle 400 TONS OF COCAINE into the U.S.
First this administration engages in all sorts of misdirection about the second strike on the boat. Now they’ve just decided to try and pin it on an admiral to save Pete Hegseth’s job. It’s repulsive to see tough-guy Hegseth scamper for cover. He should resign.
