In Congress, I’m working across the aisle to preserve our America’s leadership abroad through our production of lifesaving humanitarian aid. We’re saving starving children, supporting American farmers, and projecting our nation’s values. This is leadership from which we cannot retreat.
In Congress, I have been proud to stand up for democracy and the international rule of law by voting for sanctions and delivering humanitarian and military aid to oppose Vladimir Putin's illegal invasion.
Easter came early in Providence yesterday!🐰 Thank you to Carol & the Community Angels for organizing this year’s Easter Extravaganza to give local kids baskets and the joy of the season.
Trump broke the law by deporting Kilmar Abrego Garcia. He’s defying a 9-0 Supreme Court order by refusing to bring him back. And he’s paying a foreign government to lock up migrants in a torture prison without due process. @vanhollen.senate.gov is right — either put up in court or shut up.
Van Hollen to the Trump administration: "Put up in court or shut up"
7/ By sharing stories of how Medicaid supports Americans, our public pressure is working. Republicans are calling on their own leaders to spare their communities from harmful cuts. We can’t let up — for everyone who relies on it, we have to save Medicaid. www.axios.com/2025/04/16/m...
5/ At Women and Infants Hospital, our delegation united against GOP efforts to strip Medicaid for new & expecting mothers. With so many RIers relying on Medicaid for pregnancy, childbirth, & family planning, these cuts would devastate maternal health outcomes in our state. bsky.app/profile/amo....
Today, at Women and Infants Hospital, our delegation is standing up for Medicaid and pushing back against proposed Republican cuts that would devastate access to health care for children, families, and vulnerable people across our state.
4/ Alongside the RI delegation, I’ve convened medical professionals &advocacy groups to underscore how Medicaid helps those struggling with behavioral & mental health care. Investing in Medicaid means investing in treatment options and supporting providers who serve them. bsky.app/profile/amo....
Roughly 40% of Medicaid enrollees in Rhode Island struggle with mental illness. If Republicans make Medicaid cuts of nearly $900 billion, the harm to RI and communities across our nation would be astronomical.
3/ Last week, I spoke on House Floor to tell the story of Al — a 74-year-old resident of an East Providence assisted living facility who is petrified that cuts to Medicaid could force him on the street. bsky.app/profile/amo....
Al is my constituent — a 74 year old from East Providence who relies Medicare and Medicaid to make ends meet. He is PETRIFIED Republican cuts will force him onto the street. The Republican budget resolution opens the door to hurting folks in Rhode Island like Al. That’s why today I voted NO.
2/ In a 12+ hour @housebudgetdems.bsky.social hearing, I called out the Republican attempts to gut Medicaid to shovel tax breaks to the richest 1%. bsky.app/profile/amo....
For Rhode Island seniors on Medicare Part D who live on fixed incomes, raising prescription costs by $200 a month is a non-starter. I urge my GOP colleagues to do something to help them instead of gutting sections of the Inflation Reduction Act that make it easier to afford medication.
As a member of @housebudgetdems.bsky.social, I’ve been pushing back against the Republican scheme to pass the biggest cut to Medicaid ever — to the tune of $880 billion. Medicaid is a critical lifeline for thousands of vulnerable Rhode Islanders. Here’s how I'm fighting to protect Medicaid: 🧵
In Rhode Island, @americorps.bsky.social serves schools, health centers, food banks, Veterans facilities and countless other organizations. But Trump just shut it down. Just another shameful display of how he doesn’t value public service.
My thoughts are with the Florida State community whose lives have been upended by today’s mass shooting. Grateful for the first responders who worked to save lives. To honor the victims & injured, Congress must turn words into action — prayers into commonsense legislation to prevent gun violence.
Cutting the HHS budget by 1/3 and laying off 25% of staff won’t make America healthier. It’ll harm seniors and dismantle programs like Head Start that help kids learn and grow. Just like he did with the economy, Trump is driving our public health system into a ditch. www.axios.com/2025/04/17/t...
Medicaid isn’t just a government program — it’s a promise that health challenges won’t keep Americans from living a full life. For today’s Day of Action, I wanted to share some stories of Rhode Islanders with disabilities who would be devastated by Republican cuts to Medicaid:
