Trump wanted to slash housing funding and kick millions of families out of their homes. I said absolutely NOT and actually INCREASED funding for housing. Today I visited Little Saigon Low Income Housing Institute to discuss how we can keep building more affordable housing and bring costs DOWN.
We need to rein in ICE and CBP. We need to call out the avalanche of lies. And most importantly, we need to stand up for our communities—because they are being terrorized by their own government. The American people are demanding Congress meet this moment.
I’m relieved Wilmer has been released but the fact is there are countless others who have been brutally and needlessly detained by DHS whose stories we don’t know. I won’t abide by a government that can inflict this kind of terror on American citizens and peaceful residents with impunity.
The Trump administration withdrew a rule to make sure the products YOU use every day—like makeup and skincare—are tested for cancer-causing asbestos. Is this Making America Healthy Again??
Happy Presidents Day, America! 🇺🇸   George Washington's birthday is a great reminder of his steadfast belief in our democracy and the rule of the PEOPLE. Not a king.
Black history is a core part of American history—you cannot have one without the other.    While we celebrate the contributions and achievements of Black Americans this month, we also have to be clear-eyed about the hard work ahead to truly make our country fair and equal for all.
Vaccines are safe & effective—and the fact that our nation's top health official won't say that is ludicrous.   These numbers are a direct result of RFK Jr. & his anti-vax conspiracy theories, and it's putting Americans' health at risk.
Trump still saying he won the 2020 election is more than just a deranged old guy with a bruised ego yelling about how he didn’t actually lose. Trump is the President, and what he says matters.   He is trying to normalize election denial, and we cannot let that happen.
If ICE and CBP don't want to be called secret police, then don't wear masks.    If they don't want to be accused of kidnapping, then don't drag people out of cars & houses without warrants.   And if they don't want to be accused of being lawless, then start following the law.
From trying to coverup the Epstein files to abandoning workers being harassed at work, Trump is using the federal government to protect abusers. @pressley.house.gov & I are fighting back with our Be HEARD Act—legislation to protect workers from harassment & discrimination.
So appreciated being able to hear from everyone at @seattlechildrens.org, UW, and @fredhutch.org today. The research that NIH funds here & across the country delivers real breakthroughs, yes. But also hope for patients and kids like Camden. I'll always fight to protect funding for that hope.
Senator Murray is holding a small painting and looking down and smiling at a little boy with glasses. A woman is smiling at the Senator and standing behind the little boy with her hands on his shoulders. Another woman in a purple blazer is also smiling down at the interaction.
Senator Murray is standing at a podium that says "Seattle Children's on it. There is a woman sitting to the right of the podium that is looking up and smiling at the Senator.
Instead of cutting cancer and Alzheimer’s research by nearly half like Trump wanted—I secured a more than $415 million increase to fund NIH and lifesaving medical research. I said I would tear up Trump's budget and write a new one and that's exactly what I did.
I don't care if Stephen Miller wants ICE to be able to beat up, shoot, or detain citizens. In America, we believe in due process. We believe in our Constitution. We believe in law and order—safe streets, law enforcement we can trust. If you don’t like that? Go to Russia.
Should we be letting any weirdo with an iPhone into our child care centers asking to see proof of kids? Of course not. But that is what is happening. And Trump is promoting it! That's NOT a serious way to uncover fraud in this country, and it's putting our children in harms way.
The SAVE America Act would impose outrageous voter suppression requirements on American citizens. One example: married women who take their spouse’s name & whose last name may not match their birth certificate. Do they not get to vote? This bill is DOA in the Senate.
I voted NO on Republicans' plan to extend funding for a rogue Department of Homeland Security. Democrats are at the table and ready to pass a bill that actually reins in ICE and CBP. Americans are demanding accountability, and we will settle for nothing less.
