I am glad an agreement has finally been reached, and that the hostages who have endured horrific captivity will be coming home. This should have happened long ago, and if it had many more innocent people might still be alive.
Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA) issued the following statement today on the announced ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas:

“I am glad that this agreement has finally been reached, and that the hostages who have endured horrific captivity will be coming home. All parties must implement this ceasefire and abide by its terms to prevent any resumption of bloodshed.

“This agreement should have happened long ago, and if it had many more innocent people might still be alive. This war is a terrible tragedy and U.S. policy must be directed at ending it permanently, which will require a viable Palestinian state.”
Decades of failed American policies only made life worse for the Cuban people without achieving any of our stated aims, all while driving a big spike in migration to the US. We can push for freedom and human rights more effectively through engagement. apnews.com/article/bide...
Republicans' Child Predator Empowerment Act does not protect women. What it does do is open young women and girls up to invasive physical examination, regardless of how they identify. It’s invasive and increases the risk of abuse. I voted no.
HUGE: The Biden-Harris Administration has taken action to provide needed student loan debt relief to more than 5 million borrowers, including public servants, students with disabilities, and students who were defrauded by predatory institutions. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
Happy Korean American Day! From the first Korean immigrants who arrived in Hawaii in 1903 to the vibrant communities we see today, including here in Virginia’s 8th District, Korean Americans continue play a pivotal role in shaping American society and culture!
I was a leading advocate in the fight to protect funding for the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, identified by astronomers and astrophysicists as the top priority project for the coming decade. Thrilled to see this project nearing completion! www.washingtonpost.com/science/2025...
A somber statistic: 2024 marks the first year global temperatures exceed the warning limit of 1.5 degrees Celsius. The climate crisis is serious – and it’s here now. Immediate, decisive action is critical to ensure a livable planet for future generations. www.scientificamerican.com/article/2024...
As grizzlies continue to face threats to their survival, I’m encouraged by the decision to reinforce federal protections for their recovery under the Endangered Species Act. Grizzly bears are an iconic American species, and we must do all we can to protect them! www.outdoorlife.com/conservation...
Thank you to the Ethiopian Community Development Council for hosting last night’s New Year reception. We truly value your work on behalf our community and country to ensure our new neighbors are safe and welcomed!
I have long opposed offshore drilling off the Virginia coast, which is a threat to our environment and the recreation and tourism economies which depend on it. Glad to see this step to protect Virginia’s coastal communities. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/06/c...
Constituent services alert: my District Office just moved to a new location in Old Town Alexandria. Our new address is: 700 N Fairfax St, Suite 510 Alexandria, VA 22314 Stop by, we look forward to welcoming you to our new home for constituent support and assistance!
Frances Perkins was a trailblazer who (with some help from my grandmother) advised FDR on shaping the New Deal, including Social Security, the minimum wage, and so much more. Love to see the new national monument honoring Secretary Perkins’ legacy! apnews.com/article/bide...
That is how it's supposed to be: the peaceful transfer of power. Vice President Kamala Harris set the example. She didn't lie, or try to overturn the outcome, or incite violence; she did her job and presided over certification. That is what putting our country first looks like.
Four years ago insurrectionists incited by Donald Trump attacked the seat of American democracy in an attempt to overturn an election. Many seek to erase this event from history, but they will fail. We honor the officers who protected the Capitol, some of whom are no longer with us.
