Proud to represent a colorful diversity of Asian American communities in #CA44 and to fight for their voices to be heard in Congress. A very happy Lunar New Year to those who celebrate— may the year be prosperous for us all!
I first met Jesse Jackson in college when I worked at the White House. He spent his life in pursuit of a more just, more equal, and more engaged America for all. We will continue that fight. Rest in Power Rev. Jackson.
My heart goes out to the family of Jesse Jackson and our entire country that mourns his loss.
Jesse Jackson was a giant. A civic leader who led by example and had a gift for the spoken word. His teachings of unity and love are more important than ever as we navigate these turbulent times.
Now, a federal judge has required ICE and DHS to provide better health care and living conditions at the facility. This is just the start— @housedemocrats.bsky.social will continue our fight for immigrants’ rights.
Immigrant rights are human rights. Which is why I led a California Delegation letter with Rep. @chu.house.gov to draw attention to the neglect and horrible treatment of detainees at the California City detention center, the largest in the state.
What a truly disgusting and reprehensible display of ignorance and intolerance. This guy continues to prove that he doesn’t belong in Congress.
House Republicans should call out and punish this reckless and dangerous rhetoric about Muslims. He needs to go.
Happy Presidents Day! Today, we honor all the leaders who have worked to preserve freedom and democracy, built and preserved our institutions, and shaped our country through a belief in unity and the common good.
For months, families in surrounding neighborhoods have raised concerns. Public safety works best when communities trust the institutions serving them. I will continue to advocate for policies that protect both our security and our immigrant communities.
On Friday, I confirmed with the U.S. Coast Guard LA/Long Beach that ICE and Border Patrol packed up and left Terminal Island. It is unclear at this time whether this is permanent or if they are moving to another location in LA County.
Your Valentine’s Day costs more this year, thanks to Trump and Republicans in Congress.
Hardworking Americans pay more while billionaires pay less in the Trump economy.
My statement on the reports of decreased immigration enforcement activity at Terminal Island:
This will make it harder to protect families from pollution that worsens heat, wildfires, air quality, and raises electric bills— just so fossil fuel corporations can make record profits.
Today, the EPA announced it would ignore the established science that greenhouse gas pollution harms our health and our planet.
SHAME ON THEM.
At today’s Steering & Policy hearing, witnesses shared stories of people being harassed and disappeared by ICE.
That’s why @housedemocrats.bsky.social are fighting for common-sense reforms and accountability to address ICE abuse & misconduct.

WATCH NOW: As Kristi Noem's DHS continues to unleash violence in Minnesota and around the country, House Democrats are working to hold her accountable for the brutality that has unfolded under her watch.

The racism by the President is disgusting. Will Republicans have the moral courage to condemn it?
The American people deserve leaders who are not afraid to speak up when they see a wrong.
History is watching.
Many religious and higher education institutions have unused land that can be used to help house those in need.
My bill, co-led by @repshontelbrown.bsky.social, will provide assistance to these institutions to help remove obstacles, so we can increase affordable housing for our communities.
10 days is too long to wait to rein in an out-of-control ICE.
I voted no on the DHS funding bill, because I could not allow them to continue to kill Americans and terrorize communities, for even one more day.
This month, we remember, honor, and highlight the Black American community which has shaped our history every step of the way.
Black history is American history, and we celebrate its rich contributions to our culture and country. Happy #BlackHistoryMonth!
