Leaving the House floor tonight, I wanted to take a minute to explain why I voted against the Republican spending bill. While I am glad this government shutdown is finally coming to a close, the work to lower your health care costs is far from over.
Despite the legislation completely ignoring the looming health care crisis for tens of millions of Americans, I will continue the fight to lower healthcare costs for Marylanders everyday of this Congress. Please see above for my full statement on my vote against the Senate Amendment to H.R. 5371.
And Congress will finally get back to delivering for the American people.
As the longest shutdown in history finally comes to an end, I’m grateful federal employees won’t have to worry about their next paycheck, parents who rely on SNAP won’t have to worry about meals for their kids, passengers won’t have to worry about their next flight…
I’m looking forward to working with Congresswoman Grijalva, and most importantly, seeing the people of Arizona get the representation our Constitution promised them.

Located right here in Crownsville, the Maryland Veterans Cemetery has interred more than 28,000 Maryland veterans and their dependents who lost their lives – many in service to our country.
Throughout this month, my team has been collecting stories from veterans here in the Third District for the Library of Congress’ Veterans History Project. Thank you to the nearly 20 veterans who were willing to share your stories and for your dedication to serving our country.
Our District is home to more than 50,000 veterans, and as the daughter and granddaughter of veterans, I know how important their service is to their families and our nation as a whole.

Our federal workers, military, families who rely on SNAP, and government contractors have borne the brunt of this government shutdown. I am grateful for their service and for all the ways that our community has come together and stepped up to protect our most vulnerable neighbors.
U.S. Marine Corps’ 250th birthday means a time to honor our Marines whose determination, bravery, & innovation have been crucial to defending & serving our country throughout history. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I am proud to represent and honor our Marines on Capitol Hill.
