As we head into Memorial Day weekend, remember that Speaker Johnson pulled an Iran war powers resolution from the House Floor yesterday because he knew it would pass. He refuses to do anything to stop unnecessarily sending our troops into harm’s way.

Every year, the National Association of Letter Carriers collects non-perishable food left at post offices and in mailboxes and delivers them to food banks and shelters. In San Diego, they partnered with the amazing local nonprofit Heaven’s Windows. So glad to join this effort!
Cathedral High School student Nikki is a hero. Last year, her empathy and courage helped save a stranger from taking their own life on the side of a road. I’m so proud of her and honored to recognize her as a CA-51 Outstanding Youth.

I just introduced a resolution to honor the lives of Amin Abdullah, Mansour “Abul Izz” Kahzia, and Nader Awad, who were murdered at the Islamic Center of San Diego this week. The best way to honor their memory is to finally address the horrific rise of Islamophobia and anti-Muslim hate.

I visited the Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) center at SDSU and met with some of the students involved. I’m glad to see great initiatives like this that support AAPI students and provide inclusive programming and curriculum on campus.
Keeping drugs off the streets and holding drug traffickers accountable is important to keep our community safe and save lives. I met with some of the scientists and agents at the DEA Southwest Lab to learn more about the work they do (and they gave me a cool lab coat too!).
The conditions in ICE detention are so bad that people seeking asylum who literally fled for their lives would rather go back to their home countries than continue to fight their case here. Due process is becoming a myth.
