RFK Jr. is a threat to our nation's public health and lifesaving research. I will vote NO on his nomination to lead HHS.
Tonight, I tried to pass an amendment to have a nonpartisan watchdog, GAO, conduct a basic review and audit of DOGE. Everyone should be for more transparency but every Republican in our committee markup voted NO. What are they scared of finding out?
We cannot take RFK Jr. at his word—something he has changed and gone back and forth on time and again. But we can take him at his record—which is that he has consistently undermined vaccine confidence, and even profited from it.
RFK Jr. has made clear since he was nominated that he'll do whatever Trump and anti-abortion extremists want—he'll do whatever it takes to implement their anti-choice agenda which includes ripping away access to safe medication abortion in every state in America.
Senate Republicans are on the verge of confirming RFK Jr. as our nation's highest health official—a man who has spent considerable time & money undermining the basic fact that vaccines are safe, effective, & lifesaving. The threat of what he could do in this role is not theoretical.
Senate Republican's budget resolution would hand Elon Musk MORE power—when what we really need is to hold this unelected billionaire accountable for the damage he's already caused to American families & communities.
The only path forward to fund our government is a bipartisan one. It's where Congress works together to avoid a shutdown, stops the de facto DOGE shutdown that is already happening, & reasserts its authority to protect the funding our communities need.
It's unbelievably dangerous that Republicans want to elevate a conspiracy theorist like RFK Jr. to lead HHS—where he'll have power to oversee vaccine recommendations & insurance coverage, undermine important work at FDA, & derail lifesaving research.
Elon Musk is making big decisions about our country’s spending not just without Congress—but in SPITE of Congress.
If Musk really has nothing to hide, then he should leave his safe place on X and come before the full Senate Budget Committee to be accountable to the public.
