Today at 2:00 I'll question DoD officials about how exactly the Trump Admin's massive DoD spending, including the cost of deploying National Guard troops to DC, furthers its stated goal of reducing waste, fraud, and abuse.

I was pleased to catch up with former NPS Director Bob Stanton yesterday, who I partnered with when he served under President Clinton as the first African American to hold the position.
The Constitution grants states, not POTUS, the authority to regulate federal elections. Trump’s EO is an unconstitutional power grab that directs the USPS to obstruct mail-in ballots and disenfranchise eligible voters.
Proud to cosponsor Rep. Lynch’s bill to invalidate this illegal EO.
Many private-sector employers offer short-term disability insurance, but the federal government leaves its workers to fend for themselves in a high-cost individual market.
Today I introduced my bill to allow federal employees to purchase this insurance at group rates and at zero cost to taxpayers.

Proud to help lead @housedemocrats.bsky.social, @energycommerce.bsky.social, @democrats-judiciary.house.gov, 212 House Dems & all 47 Senate Dems in an amicus brief to #SCOTUS urging them to reject the Fifth Circuit's decision & protect medication abortion access.
As the first woman to chair the EEOC, I've spent my career working to ensure equality for women, but more must be done to address structural disparities in the workforce.
I introduced my bill to require men and women doing comparable work to receive comparable pay.
I introduced my resolution to designate today, May 1st – or 5/1 – as #DCStatehood Day.
Although every day is appropriate to highlight the need to make DC the 51st state, 5-1 is especially symbolic.
It’s time to turn this calendar coincidence into a legislative reality.
As we are denied our own vote in Congress, DC residents are natural allies in the fight for equal representation. Yesterday’s outrageous SCOTUS decision only strengthens our resolve.
Congress must pass the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and restore real voting protections for all.
Congratulations to DC’s Congressional Art Competition winners!
🥇Max William Padilla, School Without Walls, “A Sunday’s Morning”
🥈Sophia Grossman, Holton-Arms, “A Practice in Patience”
🥉Katia Rodriguez, Capitol City Public Charter School, “Ballet Dancers”
Max’s art will be hung in the Capitol.
Although I'm pleased no new anti-DC riders were added during the DC appropriations bill markup, I'm outraged at the number and scope of the riders that remain in it.
Lawmakers from other districts shouldn't dictate DC policy.
I'll continue to fight the riders from becoming law.
A federal court blocked NPS from removing the 15th St bike lanes, citing a failure to address data showing a 91% drop in bike injuries.
The opinion highlights the letter my colleagues and I sent opposing the removal.
It's a win for DC & sustainable transit.
Last week was #BlackMaternalHealthWeek. In DC, the mortality rate for infants born to Black mothers is 2x that of Hispanic mothers and 10x that of white mothers.
Black women and children deserve equitable health care. We must bridge this gap now. #BMHW26
Countless veterans use law school clinical programs for pro bono assistance with their claims waiting to be processed by the VA.
Today, I reintroduced my bill to allow the VA to provide funding for these clinics.
Dr Gubad Ibadoghlu, father of one of my constituents, is an Azerbaijani activist who’s been imprisoned by the Azerbaijani gov for 1,001 days.
According to Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, he’s being denied proper medical treatment.
I urge Sec. Rubio to secure his release immediately.
The release of the FY 27 DC appropriations bill text that includes unacceptable anti-home rule riders today, on Emancipation Day, is a cruel irony.
House Republicans have chosen today to remind us that Congress can still impose its own will on DC without the consent of its 700K residents.
DC residents were the first to be freed from slavery, 9 months before the Emancipation Proclamation, yet we are the last to continue facing the injustice that sparked America's founding: Taxation without representation.
It is time to end this historic wrong. #DCStatehood #EmancipationDay
The Potomac River was named America's most endangered river for 2026.
The Potomac is DC’s sole drinking water source, unlike other metro areas which have a backup. Congress must increase investments in wastewater infrastructure & identify a secondary water source for the nation’s capital.
The Potomac River tops the list of most endangered rivers in the country, according to a newly released report that cites the impacts of a recent sewage spill and data centers in the region.

Inspectors general play a key role in detecting and preventing the fraud Republicans claim they want to root out, yet the Trump admin has fired 19 IGs.
I'll highlight this glaring inconsistency in today's Gov Ops Subcommittee hearing, happening now.

I introduced my Emancipation Day resolution to honor the 3,100 enslaved people freed in DC 9 months before the Emancipation Proclamation.
I'll continue to defend DC from a federal legislature that actively sabotages it while denying DC autonomy over its own local budget.
Black women die in childbirth at 2-3x the rate of white women, yet 80% of maternal deaths in the US are preventable.
I'm proud to cosponsor a resolution led by Rep. Alma Adams, Rep. Lauren Underwood + Senator Cory Booker designating April 11-17 Black Maternal Health Week.
