Today, House and Senate Democrats, led by Ranking Member Robert Garcia, introduced a resolution to put an end to Trump’s takeover of DC.
I was pleased to support DC's defense of home rule by attending today's hearing in the lawsuit DC filed against the Trump Administration.
Although DOJ rightfully restored control of MPD to DC Police Chief Smith, we must pass the legislation I introduced to end the unlawful federalization of MPD.

I applaud DC for taking legal action to end the president's unlawful attempt to seize control of MPD.
On the same day DC is asserting its rights in court, I introduced legislation with my colleagues to end this egregious and unlawful federalization.
DC is united in our resistance.
No emergency exists in DC that the president did not create himself, and he is not using MPD for federal purposes, as required by law.
