A big victory for Americorps Members, volunteers & communities as $200 million appropriated by Congress is finally released, overthrowing the attempt by Trump to confiscate & redirect it. Thanks to @oagmaryland.bsky.social Maryland Anthony Brown & other state AGs for fighting hard for our people.
Today we secured a major victory for public service programs and the Marylanders who rely on them. The federal government will now release over $184 million in AmeriCorps funding – across the nation - that supports volunteers who tutor students, deliver food to families, and care for state parks.
A staggering nightmare in Minnesota as the ravages of gun violence continue to destroy the lives of children across America. We pray for those killed, injured and traumatized and WE MUST ACT NOW TO STOP GUN VIOLENCE.
To all of MoCo's young scholars and athletes, we wish you an amazing start to a great new school year. Thank you to the dedicated administrators, teachers and parents who open all the doors and pathways.
THANK YOU, MR. PRESIDENT. YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY A MASTERMIND OF TRADE. WE ARE NOW PAYING THROUGH THE NOSE FOR OUR BASIC NEEDS. YOU BROKE YOUR PROMISE TO LOWER PRICES ON DAY ONE BUT YOU CAN KEEP YOUR PROMISE TO RELEASE THE EPSTEIN FILE, SIR!!
A sweeping and powerful opinion by United States District Judge Thomas Cullen dismissing Trump’s absurd lawsuit against the entire United States District Court in Maryland. Before MAGA starts whining again about “rogue left-wing judges,” they should look up who nominated Judge Cullen to the bench.
If Trump wants to throw the book at people who commit “violent crime” while desecrating the American flag, why did he pardon people who on Jan. 6, 2021 violently assaulted our cops with American flags-on-poles, calling them heroes and rewarding their bloody flag desecration?
A half-century ago today, Springsteen released Born to Run, an album that blew the hinges off all the doors and split the city in half. Thanks to Bruce and the E Street Band for showing us so much faith—there’s still magic in the night.
Dr. Ethan Taylor and Dr. Karen Armstrong were distinguished federal workers—sacked by DOGE. Now, thanks to an accelerated teaching program at Montgomery College, these MD-08 Local Heroes are starting Monday as MCPS teachers. The federal government’s loss is our students’ gain!
Equal justice under law—unless the president doesn’t like what you have to say! Today’s raid on John Bolton’s home follows Trump revoking his security detail and security clearance and Kash Patel putting Bolton on his enemies list.
In Alaska, we saw a lawless president who excuses the bloody imperialist invasion of Ukraine roll out the red carpet for a lawless president who ordered the bloody imperialist invasion of Ukraine. The democratic world must stand against the dictators.
This week’s Local Hero is the irrepressible and inexhaustible Ed Levien, who after a successful career in advertising, began volunteering at 65 years old as an EMT for the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad. Thank you Ed for your amazing service to our community.
Trump can't militarize the capital city to distract us from his refusal to release the Epstein file.   Today @eleanornorton.bsky.social, @robertgarcia.bsky.social, @vanhollen.senate.gov and I are introducing legislation to end Trump’s hostile and lawless takeover of D.C.’s police force.
Trump’s Treasury Secretary has admitted that the GOP tax law has “a backdoor to privatizing Social Security.” Republicans are still scheming to steal away our hard-earned & hard-won Social Security. Democrats are fighting to protect & enhance the benefits Americans have relied upon for 90 years.
So much for lowering prices on Day One! Grocery bills are sky-high and Trump’s tariffs are only making it worse. Americans are hurting, 17 million people are about to lose their Medicaid and the GOP is handing out tax cuts to billionaires.
Trump’s disrespect for veterans and their families, which began long ago with his trash-talking John McCain, continues with this rampage of union-busting and deception. Congress must stop Trump’s attack on VA workers, many of them vets and all of them serving veterans.
