Our country faces grave challenges, but Americans around the country give me hope. Like the thousands I spoke to at a #NoKingsDay protest in Baltimore — patriots making clear we will NOT tolerate Trump’s lawlessness and abuses of power. We will defend the country we love.
I can’t think of a better place to celebrate #FlagDay than the Star-Spangled Banner Flag House in Baltimore — the site where Mary Pickersgill, her family and Grace Wisher sewed the flag that flew at Ft. McHenry & inspired the National Anthem. A big piece of MD & U.S. history!🇺🇸
Our first #NoKingsDay stop this morning was in Rockville, where over 1,000 people were gathered to send a clear message to Donald Trump: WE THE PEOPLE say NO KINGS. We will hold him accountable in court, in Congress, and in communities across the country.
Horrified by the sickening act of political violence in Minnesota. I pray for the family of Melissa Hortman and her husband, who were murdered in cold blood, and for the recovery of John Hoffman and his wife. The killer must be held accountable. This has no place in America.
We cannot move on from what happened yesterday. A Senator being roughed up and handcuffed for trying to ask a question is what you see in a DICTATORSHIP. Our country is at a crossroads and we need EVERY American to stand up to defend freedom, democracy and our Constitution.
The Republican tax bill adds a mountain of red tape and bureaucracy for people who are eligible for Medicaid. That's right: the party that brought you "DOGE" wants to make government LESS efficient so they can take health care from millions of Americans. I have a better idea⬇️
The Netanyahu government’s decision to attack Iran only makes a very dangerous situation worse. Instead of bringing wars to an end, Trump is facilitating them — leading to civilian deaths and threatening American lives. This is a moment that requires real American leadership.
Bukele and Trump are complicit in an illegal scheme to use US taxpayer dollars to ship people to El Salvador in violation of their constitutional rights. Today we introduced sanctions against the Bukele regime to fight this cash-for-collusion deal & assault on our Constitution:
What we saw today is what we see in dictatorships. And if they can do this to @padilla.senate.gov, imagine how vulnerable others in this country are to this kind of tyranny and abuse. This is a moment for every American to STAND UP for freedom and for our Constitution.
The Trump administration is rescinding vital protections that keep harmful pollutants out of the air we breathe. Another gift to the fossil fuel industry at expense of the public health. Another betrayal of the American people. Shameful.
These two ultra-extremist members of the Netanyahu government have called for what amounts to the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from Gaza and annexation of the West Bank. Sanctioning them was the right move and more should join in taking this action.
This has always been a two-step plan. First they fire federal employees dedicated to serving the American people, then they replace them with political hacks dedicated to serving Donald Trump. It's not "government efficiency." It's pure political cronyism. We must stop it.
The same president who wants to cut $800B from Medicaid and strip health care from 16 million Americans to fund tax cuts for billionaires...is spending $134M to send troops to CA and $45M on his birthday parade in DC. Burning taxpayer dollars to play king. Un-American.
Trump's so-called "Big, Beautiful Bill" brings a sledgehammer to clean energy in America — hurting our fight against climate change while raising energy costs and slashing good-paying jobs.   That may be "beautiful" for Big Oil, but it's just another betrayal for working people.
Bukele's crackdown on journalists, dissent and free speech under his regime's so-called "Foreign Agents Law" is destroying any semblance of democracy in El Salvador. It's no surprise that this cowardly authoritarian has found a friend and co-conspirator in Donald Trump.
Ten El Faro reporters left El Salvador as a precaution after publishing a series of interviews with gang members alleging long-standing ties between President Nayib Bukele and criminal groups. CPJ spoke with El Faro Editor-in-Chief Óscar Martínez on the toll of the persecution. cpj.org?p=484544
What Trump is doing in California is right out of the authoritarian playbook. Violence is never acceptable — period. But people have the right to peaceful protest. Trump needs to let local law enforcement do its job and stop adding fuel to the fire for his political spectacle.
Trump has undermined our independent judiciary here at home and is now attacking judges overseas. Whatever one thinks of the ICC's opinions, sanctioning these judges is a mafia-type response and more Trump/Rubio lawlessness. Our European allies are right to protect the rule of law.
The @ec.europa.eu fully supports the ICC and its officials. The ICC holds perpetrators of the world’s gravest crimes to account and gives victims a voice. It must be free to act without pressure. We will always stand for global justice and the respect of international law.
