I also dropped by SW Georgia Children’s Alliance, Inc., in Americus. Earlier this year, I secured $739,000 in federal funds to support the its prevention programs, informed care practices, & efforts to improve justice system response to child abuse & domestic violence across 17 counties in GA-02.
I participated in National Night Out in Columbus which helps build stronger ties between residents and law enforcement and participated in the criminal justice and law enforcement symposium at Albany Technical College.
Last month, I got to visit with many communities across Georgia’s Second Congressional District to talk about their concerns and how I am working in Congress to support law enforcement and invest in public safety as well as the wellbeing of children.
Today, Congressman Austin Scott and I led the Georgia Delegation in remembering former U.S. Rep. Charles Hatcher (GA-02) and honoring him with a moment of silence in the U.S. House of Representatives after his passing earlier this week.
I will continue to work hard in Congress to invest in our youth and students so that we are educating and training the next generation of workers and leaders in all industries, including agriculture, which is a huge part of Georgia’s economy.
Partnerships between federal, state, county, and municipal governments help get big projects off the ground to meet local and regional needs in Southwest Georgia and across the country.
In the past year and a half, the Department of Education has been gutted, which is jeopardizing our country’s ability to continue to invest in crucial career and technical programs like this.
Last month, I had the pleasure of visiting the new Ignite College & Career Academy’s Ag and Cannery Facility at Sumter County High School. This will help educate the next generation of ag producers, workers, and industry leaders, as well as connect them with local farmers and ranchers today.
Yesterday, I had the honor and privilege, as the Dean of Georgia’s Congressional Delegation, of introducing Dr. Everton Blair, the newest member of the U.S. House who represents Georgia’s 13th Congressional District. I wish him all the best as he serves our nation and the great state of Georgia!
The amount of money we are burning through on unauthorized wars and losing in chaotic trade wars, would be better invested in making healthcare more affordable, for all Americans, and I will work hard in Congress to make that happen.
I fought against that bad bill, but since it became law, more than 90,000 Georgians in the 2nd District are seeing their healthcare costs increase and over 42,000 are losing access to healthcare.
Unfortunately, over the last year and a half, healthcare has been under attack and last year’s big, ugly bill pushed by Congressional GOP leaders and the Trump Administration made huge cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and the Affordable Care Act.
This week, I am in DC for votes, but throughout August I was in different parts of the Second Congressional District. I spoke at the Valley Healthcare System legislative gathering in Columbus and visited Primary Care Southwest Georgia’s health center in Blakely.
This afternoon, I voted for a bipartisan, temporary funding bill that will keep the government open and working for the people through December 11 while Congress works on a full-year funding bill for Fiscal Year 2027.

That is at the heart of Article 1 of the U.S. Constitution and why Congress also passed the Impoundment Control Act of 1974, when President Nixon tried to withhold funds that were already obligated according to the law.
During the hearing, I asked the Director about how Congress can be any clearer to ensure that the Trump Administration understands that once a funding bill is signed into law, the President is not allowed to change or second-guess the spending and withhold it due to policy or political differences.
