Last week, I was honored to join the Illinois Farm Bureau Agribusiness Roundtable to discuss the challenges facing Illinois agriculture and urgent Farm Bill priorities. Protecting our farmers and growers is more critical than ever — I’m committed to finding solutions.
The Trump administration just ADMITTED that they’re trying to privatize Social Security. Social Security is a commitment to our seniors that if you work hard and play by the rules, you can retire with dignity. We won’t let Trump replace that with another one of his false promises.
I’m excited to announce that after we pushed for these dollars, Champaign County has been awarded $6.4 million in Head Start and Early Head Start funding! Supporting education is one of my top priorities, and I’ll keep advocating for these resources that ensure every child is set up for success.
When the Trump administration abruptly ended two USDA programs that help food banks and schools purchase locally grown food, it was a major setback. I’m proud to help introduce a bipartisan bill that would restore these important initiatives that fight hunger and support Illinois family farmers.
The mail delays that Central and Southern Illinoisans are facing right now are unacceptable. On Monday, I convened a roundtable with union leaders, postal employees, farmers, and state legislators because we’re on a mission to make the Postal Service better.
I’m relieved that a judge has blocked the provision in the Big, Ugly Bill that defunds Planned Parenthood. We’re going to keep fighting to defeat this backdoor abortion ban and safeguard access to reproductive care for women in Illinois and across the country.
It was great to join @repmrvan.bsky.social for our SEVENTH New Dems on the Road Stop! We met with labor leaders, community colleges, and local nonprofits in Indiana to talk about our policy agenda to expand workforce development opportunities, including registered apprenticeships.
For 60 years, Medicaid and Medicare have been a lifeline, helping countless Americans access high-quality, affordable health care. I’m fighting to stop Trump’s Medicaid cuts that will devastate rural hospitals and strip health coverage away from 10 million people across the country.
I’m excited to lead this bipartisan group alongside Rep. Bergman, Rep. Pappas, and Rep. Garbarino to push back against postal privatization, improve speed and service, and protect good-paying union jobs at USPS.
For years, my constituents – and Americans nationwide – have faced lagging delivery rates, facility closures, and neglect from the top leadership at USPS. We’re launching the bipartisan Congressional Postal Service Caucus to tackle these issues head-on.
After we turned up the pressure, I’m glad to see the Trump admin release the education funds they’ve been illegally withholding from our communities. This is a big relief for our school districts and I’m going to keep holding the administration accountable to make sure #IL13 sees these dollars.
Last week, I had the chance to meet with LGBTQ+ advocates in Champaign. I’ll continue to fight for safety, dignity, and equity of the LGBTQ+ community in the Halls of Congress and I’m committed to regularly convening meetings like this one to listen and learn from folks’ lived experiences.
The idea that veterans who fought and sacrificed for our country would face deportation is shameful. We’re demanding answers from the Trump administration about what they’re doing to prevent unjust veteran deportations and ensure noncitizen vets can access the VA benefits they’ve earned.
Our nation’s noncitizen veterans have served our country and deserve full access to the benefits they have earned and deserve. Yet, veterans continue to face the threat of deportation. (1/2)
USPS is a lifeline in rural communities, but lagging delivery rates have meant delayed prescriptions, late bills, missed paychecks, and more. We must do better. I was glad to bring together local leaders today to talk about how we can improve the postal service for Central and Southern Illinois.
The National Soybean Germplasm Collection, housed at the University of Illinois, is essential to Illinois’ ag economy and food security worldwide. It’s hard to overstate the significance of their work – yet President Trump’s budget proposed cutting its funding altogether. We can’t let that happen.
