Public safety starts with strong communities. Yesterday, I was proud to present a $1,031,000 federal investment to The Mattie Rhodes Center to support community-based violence intervention and prevention efforts across #MO05.
While Democrats fought successfully to lower monthly premiums for American families, Republicans have slashed investments in the ACA and Medicaid, driving up health care costs for millions of households.
President Biden made health insurance more affordable for millions of Americans in the ACA marketplace. The Republicans’ actions increased prices by 58% on average—amounting to huge extra costs for the average consumer each year. My @morningjoe-msnow.bsky.social Chart.
The American people are pleading for Congress to enact bipartisan solutions that will address the cost-of-living crisis. As the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Housing, I believe we should start with our bipartisan bill to increase affordable housing. thehill.com/opinion/fina...
While the president may not mind skyrocketing gas prices, hardworking Missouri families are being crushed as they are forced to spend more every time they fill up the tank due to the disastrous war in the Middle East. They deserve better. www.usatoday.com/story/cars/n...
May is Mental Health Awareness Month—and a reminder of the importance of affordable & accessible mental health care. Know that you are never alone and help is always available with the 988 lifeline. As your voice in Congress, I will always advocate for more mental health resources for Missourians.
Trickle-down economics continues to fail working-class families. While CEO pay skyrockets, American workers are being left behind. Rather than giving more tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans, Congress should #RaiseTheWage to ensure workers receive their fair share. www.cnbc.com/2026/04/30/u...
The president promised he would lower costs on Day One. Instead, American families are paying the price of the president’s disastrous war in the Middle East as gas prices continue to skyrocket.
⛽ Average U.S. gas prices per gallon on May 6, per AAA: • Regular: $4.54 (⬆️ $1.56 since war in Iran began on Feb. 28) • Premium: $5.39 (⬆️ $1.85 since war began) • Diesel: $5.67 (⬆️ $1.81 since war began)
While Republicans prioritized slashing taxes for their wealthy donors, their cuts to the Affordable Care Act have driven up health care costs on American families. @housedemocrats.bsky.social are fighting to extend ACA tax credits that will lower costs for millions of households nationwide.
Trump’s cuts to Obamacare subsidies hit middle class and elderly workers the hardest. A 60-year-old making $65,000 a year now stands to pay $920 more per month. My @morningjoe-msnow.bsky.social Chart.
The administration seems proud that they are forcing families to max out their credit cards as they spend more on everything from gasoline to groceries. Completely out of touch with the struggles of working-class Americans.
Hassett on American consumers: "Credit card spending is through the roof. They're spending more on gasoline, but they're spending more on everything else too."
Today marks the beginning of National Nurses Week! Let us show our appreciation for the remarkable nurses who do lifesaving work every single day, helping keep our communities healthy and strong. Thank you for all that you do!
With reproductive rights still under assault, I joined more than 250 lawmakers to defend a woman’s right to make her own health care choices. Mifepristone is safe, reliable, and approved by the FDA—and it should remain accessible to women nationwide. thehill.com/regulation/c...
Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! Teachers are the bedrock of our education system—and they deserve our appreciation for all they do to support our kids and strengthen our communities. Proud to introduce a bipartisan resolution recognizing their important work. cleaver.house.gov/media-center...
The Artemis II mission gave Americans a jolt of patriotic exuberance. It reminded us of what can be accomplished when we work together toward a common goal. Today, I urge Congress to use this feat as motivation to address our national housing affordability crisis. thehill.com/opinion/fina...
It was a pleasure meeting with Mayor Kevin King. Whether it's securing federal investments to support local projects like rebuilding Kentucky Avenue Bridge, or supporting workforce development initiatives that benefit local workers, we'll keep working to build a stronger future in Independence.
Feliz Cinco de Mayo! Today we celebrate the rich culture, deep roots, and lasting contributions of Mexican Americans that continue to shape and strengthen our communities across the country.
The Supreme Court’s latest decision weakens key protections in the Voting Rights Act that have helped ensure every American has an equal voice at the ballot box. At Friday’s Urban Summit meeting, I reaffirmed that Congress must protect access to the vote and uphold the integrity of our democracy.
Mifepristone is safe, reliable, and approved by the FDA. While I’m relieved SCOTUS blocked an extreme decision from a lower court to restrict access, it is not enough. We must continue to push back against the assault on reproductive freedom by enshrining protections into law.
Breaking News: The Supreme Court restored broad access to mifepristone in a temporary order that will allow women to obtain the abortion pill by mail for now.
