Last week we held a congressional hearing in Houston to investigate the ICE murder of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. I struggle these days for words that adequately describe the injustice we're seeing, promise accountability and offer some measure of healing for families.
She was a student at Churchill High School in San Antonio. He was working at the Hilton Garden Inn. Neither has committed a crime. Their asylum case is pending.
Now they’re both sitting at the Dilley Trailer Prison. #ShutDownDilley #FreeTheChildren
16-year-old Emely Charloth Suaza Chambo was taken by ICE on her way to church.
ICE told her dad Fernando Suaza Ortiz to come take her home or they’d send her out of state. When he showed up for his daughter they took him too.
112 children are imprisoned at Dilley. The youngest child imprisoned at Dilley is 2 months old. None have committed any crime.
Private investors make money for each new child taken into Dilley. We need to #ShutDownDilley and end family detention.

Innocent children are being locked away and traumatized at the Dilley Trailer Prison.
They are fed food with worms and mold, drinking water that makes them sick, and being denied medical care.
Shut down Dilley! No child should have to suffer like this.

The United States has allowed private companies like CoreCivic to make money off of child imprisonment. It's wrong. I led a group of 111 lawmakers who are calling for Dilley to be shut down. #FreeOurChildren
No child deserves to be locked up in a place like the Dilley Trailer Prison. Innocent kids are treated like criminals. The food is sometimes moldy or has worms. Lights are kept on through the night. Medical care is often delayed or denied.
It’s shocking and shameful that in the United States we have allowed for investors to make money off of child imprisonment. Children as young as two-months old.

Juan came to this country when he was just 5 years old and was raising his two young daughters with his wife in the Rio Grande Valley.
His family is struggling without him and need him home. ICE should release him immediately.
A baby girl is battling cancer while her father is locked away by ICE. Juan Francisco's 1-year-old daughter has a life-threatening eye cancer and was diagnosed last August. He has been at the Laredo Rio Grande Processing center for 157 days.
