Many families on the Central Coast rely on critical programs like SNAP. That's why I was at the Food Bank of Santa Barbara County to raise the alarm on House Republicans' budget proposal which would cut $230 billion from nutrition programs to fund tax breaks for billionaires.
Today marks three years since Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine. @housedemocrats.bsky.social stand firmly for peace, but there cannot be an agreement on Ukraine without Ukraine. This was true three years ago & remains true now—Russia started this war and can end this war today.
Community colleges are vital in providing equitable access to quality education for all. It was a pleasure meeting with local higher education leaders from Santa Barbara City College & Allan Hancock College to discuss their work to expand access & create more opportunities across the Central Coast.
Our first responders need every resource available to protect our communities from devastating wildfires—like the ones we saw recently in Southern California. That’s why I’m proud to join a bipartisan effort to strengthen our aircraft fleet by using excess military planes and parts. ⤵️
Donald Trump has once again taken an unjustifiable action by firing General CQ Brown, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. General Brown is a dedicated, effective, and highly respected leader—this move only creates more chaos and confusion and weakens our national security at a critical time.
Carpinteria Children's Project does important work connecting young families to vital services including pre-k, health, and social services. It was great speaking with Executive Director Teresa Alvarez and the hardworking teachers who do so much to help children and their families learn and thrive!
Tackling California's housing crisis remains one of my top priorities this Congress. I met with the Santa Barbara Association of Realtors to discuss ways to reduce costs & remove barriers to homeownership—because owning a home should always be part of the American Dream.
Ukraine is not, as Donald Trump claims, responsible for Russia's invasion. Russia is. I've been to Kyiv. I've talked to the soldiers and civilians fighting to defend their nation. Even if our President won't, I will always #StandWithUkraine.
I always love welcoming Central Coast public officials to Washington! Thanks to Morro Bay Mayor Carla Wixom, City Manager Yvonne Kimball, and Harbor Vitality Director Chris Munson for stopping by to discuss how we can continue supporting Morro Bay's community, economy, and environment.
Elon Musk defunding our anti-cartel programs won't save the Central Coast taxpayers anything. It will just force local law enforcement to pick up the slack, and the tab, as more crime and drugs hit our streets.
Don't be fooled: Donald Trump's deportation agenda claims to prioritize criminals, but we're hearing new stories of terror every day from people who pose no risk to national security or public safety. "Californians picked up...include kids, volunteers"
Veterans should never be denied access to housing due to disability benefits they receive. I’ve advocated for this change since my first term, and this week we took a major step towards codifying a rule made by Joe Biden preventing this type of discrimination for disabled veterans.
I am honored that the House passed the Housing Unhoused Disabled #Veterans Act (HUDVA) -- crucial legislation introduced by Rep. Monica De La Cruz and I to remove an unfair barrier preventing disabled homeless veterans from accessing veteran housing. (1/2)
