New year, new ways to save money.
Starting in 2025, people across the country no longer have to hand their money over to TurboTax to file their taxes.
Instead, you can file your taxes online, for free with the IRS.
See if you're eligible at directfile.irs.gov
BIG WIN: If you or a loved one have asthma, you may see the price of your inhaler go down. I’ve sounded the alarm about companies like Teva rigging the patent system to keep the price of inhalers high. The FTC is fighting to bring your health care costs down, and winning.
When you order your morning coffee, you want to know that your barista is paid a fair wage. But Starbucks isn’t just short-changing their baristas — they’re also stalling negotiations and union-busting. Starbucks Workers United: We’ve got your back.
The Starbucks strike has begun at stores in LA, Chicago, and Seattle. @sbworkersunited.org says other locations will join imminently, and the rolling strike will grow over the next several days. 537 locations with 12,000 workers are unionized and could join the shutdown.
Here's what this means: Republicans are plotting to cut health care for seniors and veterans to grease the wheels for tax cuts for giant corporations and billionaires like Elon Musk.
Corporate profits are higher than ever, but workers’ salaries have barely moved. It’s time to stand up for working people and hold big corporations responsible for decisions that hurt workers and consumers while lining shareholders’ pockets. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024...
Just a reminder that in 2019, RFK Jr.'s anti-vaccine misinformation campaign helped cause a measles outbreak in Samoa that killed 83 people, mostly kids. Do you really want him to lead the Department of Health and Human Services?
When you’re shopping for a hotel room or making plans to attend a concert, you should know the full price up front. These bait-and-switch traps to trick you into paying more must end. The Biden administration agrees. The FTC and Lina Khan are fighting back to save you money.
Candidate Trump promised to lower grocery prices, but now it seems he isn't even going to try. While champagne corks pop at Mar-a-Lago, President-elect Trump says that he can't really lower grocery prices because it's "very hard." Sad. It’s the start of a broken promise.
Southern Glazer's, the largest distributor of wine and spirits, may have charged mom & pop shops MORE than big chain stores. That means you pay more when you shop at your local grocer. The FTC is enforcing a law against illegal price discrimination.
Not only did Navient push predatory student loans onto people attending fraudulent for-profit colleges—now, they're rejecting 80% of borrowers who apply for relief. I’m calling on the CFPB and the FTC to ensure Navient cancels debts for all cheated borrowers.
As storms devastate communities from coast to coast, families have been denied housing assistance because they lack proper documentation to prove ownership or residency. My bill will make it easier for survivors to get disaster assistance.
Let’s talk about Direct File. It’s a free, easy way for people to file their taxes directly online with IRS. You keep your tax refund — rather than paying $150 to a sleazy tax prep company. It’s more efficient! But these Republicans want you to keep wasting money on TurboTax.
