Detaining children causes lasting harm and does nothing to deter migration.
Along with @jayapal.house.gov, @raskin.house.gov, and @benniethompson.bsky.social, we’re calling on the Trump administration to end this practice.

Did you keep your maiden name after marriage?
Does your birth certificate match your current legal name?
Do you have a valid U.S. passport?
If you answered no to any of these questions, you won’t be able to register to vote under the Republican SAVE Act.

There’s only one group this budget helps: billionaires. Hard working Americans will pay for those massive tax breaks with cuts to Medicaid and nutrition programs, and our children will inherit explosive debt.
I just voted against the damaging Republican budget resolution.
Republicans told Americans to trust them on the economy and Donald Trump promised to lower costs on ‘day one.’
But the budget Republicans voted in favor of today fails to deliver on what they told you they would do.
The Trump administration keeps losing in court because they’re breaking the law. It’s that simple.
Yet Republicans are trying to overhaul the federal court system and rewrite the rules.
That’s why I voted against the Republican effort to erode judicial powers.

WATCH: @repescobar.bsky.social just slammed House Republicans for trying to fund billionaire tax breaks by kicking everyday Americans off their health coverage.
“This budget bill makes Americans sicker and poorer, and it will make the rich richer.”
UPDATED UPDATE: Trump on the markets: “Up 2500 points. Nobody has ever heard of it. Gotta be a record.”
Went the full cycle in less than a week nobody has ever heard of it. Gotta be a record.
UPDATE: Trump paused tariffs
Why would you if that once-confidential information is going to be used against you?
As we’ve learned with the Trump administration, they’ll do anything to target immigrants, even if (and it seems especially, when) it makes no economic or moral sense.
But what this Trump administration will do instead is create an incentive for undocumented immigrants to no longer report their income and pay taxes.
That will result in a significant loss of revenue.
In fact, not only would we keep these tax dollars (and grow them), but we could finally address the insolvency of social security if we did.

If we were smart, we would pass comprehensive immigration reform (like my bill the Dignity Act of 2023), which would capitalize on this great workforce.
"Who cares that they pay taxes? They're still undocumented."
The fact that undocumented immigrants pay taxes yet receive few benefits demonstrates that they’re not only eager and willing to pay their fair share, but it proves they are part of the American workforce and economy.
"But Congresswoman! How can undocumented immigrants pay taxes?"
@immcouncil.org has a very useful factsheet on ITINs, a tax-processing number issued by the IRS to ensure people pay taxes, regardless of immigration status.

"Undocumented immigrants don't pay taxes!"
Contrary to what Republicans have repeatedly claimed, yes, they do.
According to a study release by the @itep.org, undocumented immigrants contributed nearly $100 BILLION in federal, state, and local taxes in 2022.

The IRS deciding to share tax information with DHS is a betrayal of the agency's longstanding guarantee that suspected undocumented taxpayers wouldn’t have their information turned over to ICE.
It’s also a costly decision.
A thread.
Because we all know the best way to tackle fraud... is closing the Major Frauds Unit.
