I’m headed to the floor now to vote against another Republican FISA bill that allows for the surveillance of Americans without a warrant. I refuse to support legislation that does not respect our fundamental rights, and I implore my colleagues to vote against this bill.
We have all the seen videos of ICE’s repeated abuses of power. I will not be gaslit by the Republican majority into voting to give another $70 billion to this agency. This agency needs to be dismantled, and its previously approved funding needs to be clawed back.
We are expecting the House to vote on another War Powers Resolution, this time introduced by Rep. Gottheimer. I want to be clear that I will vote in favor of this legislation and will continue to support all efforts to reign in Trump’s actions abroad that are putting so many lives at risk.
I am very glad to see the growing support for @ramirez.house.gov's Melt ICE Act! Ending immigrant detention and monitoring while redirecting funding to our communities would deal a critical blow to ICE while putting our communities first—I'm proud to be a cosponsor.
I’m proud to have @hispaniccaucus.bsky.social endorse my Melt ICE Act. The bill would end funding for immigrant detention and monitoring and redirect the funding to our communities. The time to MELT ICE is now.
It was a pleasure to speak at the General Federation of Women's Clubs Convention this weekend! GFWC-NC has been fighting for over a century to uplift the voices of women across our state through service, and I’ll always support their mission in the halls of Congress.
This war that is claiming the lives of innocent civilians must end and I continue to call on my colleagues to join me in supporting Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib's War Powers Resolution to prevent U.S. involvement in Israel’s hostilities in Lebanon.
As with previous Iran War Powers Resolutions, I am cosponsoring @jayapal.house.gov's resolution to stop Trump’s war in Iran. As we continue to see the human impacts of this war across the region, the importance of stopping Trump’s offensive is more important than ever.
Trump’s illegal forever war is threatening servicemembers’ and civilians’ lives, while costing billions of taxpayer dollars every day. Congress must step up to end it.
Rep. Jayapal speaking at a podium in a formal setting, with an American flag visible in the background. Text on the image reads: "New Legislation: Rep. Jayapal Introduces War Powers Resolution to End Trump’s Illegal War with Iran."
This bill is endorsed by the American Society for Collective Rights Licensing, the Society of Composers and Lyricists, @authorsguild.org, and more. Congress needs to regulate all sectors of AI, including generative AI, and this bill is an important step in that direction.
Generative AI can be incredibly dangerous. It enables the spread of deepfakes and vast misinformation across our country. @beyer.house.gov, Rep. James Moylan and I introduced the bipartisan Protecting Consumers from Deceptive AI Act to mandate clear labeling of AI-generated content.
I am wishing a speedy recovery to the Secret Service agent who was injured at the White House Correspondents' Dinner this weekend, and am relieved that the attendees are safe. Political violence in all forms has no place in our society.
Too many people seeking Social Security disability benefits are forced to wait months for responses when advancing through the reconsideration and appeals processes. I’m introducing the RECON Act to eliminate red tape by allowing claimants to proceed directly to a hearing after an initial decision.
It was great meeting with International Union of Elevator Constructors Local 80 and Local 135 this week! IUEC represents about 30,000 workers across the nation, and I’m proud to work with our local chapters to support the right to unionize and push legislation that puts hardworking Americans first.
Congress cannot allow this technology to be used to further wars or enable the deprivation of human rights. In decisions of life and death, it is critical that humans remain in the loop and maintain meaningful control over weapons systems.
