As I reflect on the recent attacks on key components of our democracy, I remain grateful to have the privilege of ensuring our nation honors the Constitution's founding principles of liberty and justice for all. Today and every day, I'm proud to be American. Happy Independence Day!

For 8+ hours, @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social spoke to keep Republicans from jamming Trump's One Big, Ugly Bill through in the dead of night—forcing them to cast their votes in the light of day. House Democrats’ commitment remains: We’ll keep pressing on for the American people, until victory is won.
Today, House Republicans passed abhorrent legislation that will make millions of Americans more poor, hungry, and unhealthy, all to give tax cuts to the already wealthy. The American people will remember this betrayal – and how each Member voted. What a sad day.
Trump's promises remain unfulfilled, yet he wants working Americans to pick up the tab for his Big, Ugly Bill's $3.4 trillion price tag. We cannot allow this partisan legislation to saddle future generations with trillions in debt and continue rattling confidence in our economy.
The American people have spoken out against Trump’s cuts to health care for months. Democratic Leader @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social is making sure that Republicans hear these important stories before they vote to take away coverage from 17 million Americans.
Just took to the House Floor to speak in support of a country where everyone can afford to live the good life. And in strong opposition to Trump’s One Big Ugly Bill that is devastating to everyday Americans. We will not be silenced. www.youtube.com/live/3pbFrch...
It would be a disgrace if meaningful contributions for people in need will be used to fund the Administration's priorities, including their tax breaks for billionaires. Read what the Independent Sector said about how the Big, Ugly Bill would hurt charitable giving:
The Trump Administration has turned its back on children, seniors, and people with disabilities to give tax breaks to the wealthiest among us. House Democrats are standing together against the Big, Ugly Bill and will keep advocating for the most vulnerable Americans.
More than 245,000 in MD would lose health care coverage because of a big, ugly bill Trump wants to sign on July 4th. The Senate & House are jamming this abomination through Congress in order to give tax breaks to the wealthiest 0.1%, forcing millions to pay higher premiums, co-pays, & deductibles.
Marylanders with disabilities – especially in rural areas – will shoulder the burden of Trump’s Big, Ugly Bill. Read what @aapd-disability.bsky.social said about the devastating impacts of this “disgusting abomination.” House Democrats stand united against this devastating legislation.
The FBI deserves a headquarters that meets its security and mission needs, and Greenbelt, Maryland was selected as the site that best meets those requirements. #TeamMaryland will fight against the Administration's attempts to redirect funds appropriated for the new campus.
Congratulations to the top participants from the Black History Month Essay Contest who took to the stage to share their compelling works at the #MD05 Open Mic night! Special thanks to Life Journeys Writers Guild for helping recognize our talented students, and I look forward to next year's contest.
7 years later, the Capital Gazette shooting serves as a somber reminder that we must keep working to end gun violence & ensure freedom of the press remains a critical component of our democracy. I join in remembering Gerald, Rob, John, Rebecca, & Wendi, and my prayers are with their loved ones.
My friend @repdwightevans.bsky.social has been a champion for #PA03 and a dynamic leader in improving national security, tax fairness, & the lives of hardworking Americans across the U.S. It has been an honor to serve alongside him in the House, & I wish him & his family the best in his retirement.
On this day, the Supreme Court granted all Americans the Constitutional right to equal marriage. A decade later, civil rights for LGBTQ+ Americans are at risk. Democrats will keep working to reinforce marriage equality & preserve protections for LGBTQ+ Americans and their families.
Congress’s unique status in our government is what makes us a great democracy. We need legislation that protects the GAO's power to hold the Trump Admin accountable for diverting funds and policy set by Congress and its assault on the federal government.
Republicans are allowing Trump to continue redirecting congressionally approved funding and evade the legal consequences. Watch @democrats-appropriations.house.gov fight to ensure Congress fulfills its Constitutional role to deliver critical investments for the American people.
Congratulations @wmata.com on being recognized as the best transit system in the country! WMATA serves millions of residents and visitors annually, and I am proud of our work together to ensure 'America's Metro' continues to provide reliable and safe public transport for our region.
BREAKING: Honored to report @apta-info.bsky.social names @wmata.com as Outstanding Public Transportation Agency. I’m so proud & thxful for our board, 13k staff & partners who are being recognized for all their incredible hard work serving our community! Congrats 🎉 t.co/lHHy3cqDSc
Fighting antisemitism, stopping terrorists, upholding cybersecurity, & responding to disasters are not partisan issues. It's imperative that the House works together on legislation that enhances the security of our nation & safety of the American people.
