From standing up for his constituents in VA-11 to battling his cancer diagnosis, my dear friend @connolly.house.gov has always been a fighter. I am proud to have served alongside Gerry in the House for 16 years, & his departure at the end of the 119th will be a great loss to our Congress & country.
On #WorkersMemorialDay, we remember those we've lost to workplace-related injury or illness. Today, my thoughts are with the families of victims in the Key Bridge collapse. We honor their memories by continuing the fight to improve and reinforce protections for workers to lead long, healthy lives.

Costs are up under Donald Trump and the Republican Budget will make it worse. On today’s Democratic Daily Download, @repluzrivas.bsky.social explains how slashing Medicaid and food assistance will make life harder for working families already struggling with the high cost of living.
The 44th Annual Service Academy & College ROTC Showcase is just two weeks away, and I encourage #MD05 students interested in the Armed Services to join us on Thurs. May 8th, 2025 and discover what our prestigious service academies have to offer. Register here: t.co/5sLBCMinrK

Grocery prices are already too high, and the President hasn’t done anything to help. Americans need relief. On today’s Democratic Daily Download, @meng.house.gov talks about how the Trump Administration’s policies are only making it more difficult for hardworking families to make ends meet.
Join me in congratulating Dhruvak on receiving the prestigious Truman scholarship! As a fellow civic-minded Terp, I wish him all the best as he hopes to “spend [his] life in service to others.” Godspeed. cmns.umd.edu/news-events/...
@durbin.senate.gov is a model legislator, a principled leader, and a gifted consensus builder. I have no doubt that my friend's legacy of accomplishment will only grow in the 119th Congress and beyond. My full statement on his legacy: hoyer.house.gov/media/press-...
The decision of whether to run for re-election has not been easy. I truly love the job of being a United States Senator. But in my heart, I know it’s time to pass the torch. So, I am announcing today that I will not be seeking re-election at the end of my term.
This is serious: Local leaders have told me that Trump’s cuts could lead to evictions and child hunger across Maryland. @alsobrooks.senate.gov and I spoke with Sandy from LifeStyles of Maryland, Inc., regarding the consequences: www.somdnews.com/independent/...
This Earth Day, let us recommit to fighting the ongoing climate crisis that threatens our beautiful communities. I will keep working to secure investments that prioritize environmental justice and boost climate resilience throughout #MD05 and across the country.
I send my deepest condolences to those in the Catholic Church mourning the loss of Pope Francis today. May we all cherish his memory and embody his commitment to justice, compassion, and humanitarianism.
I join in wishing families in #MD05 and those celebrating across the country a Happy Easter. May you enjoy this joyful day with your loved ones as we welcome the arrival of spring and embrace new beginnings.
I’m relieved to see Abrego Garcia is alive, and I’m grateful for Senator @vanhollen.senate.gov’s leadership and moral clarity. The Supreme Court has spoken unanimously: Abrego Garcia must be brought home. Trump’s disregard for this ruling goes against the Constitution and our ideals.
I said my main goal of this trip was to meet with Kilmar. Tonight I had that chance. I have called his wife, Jennifer, to pass along his message of love. I look forward to providing a full update upon my return.

Slashing Medicaid threatens the health care of millions of Marylanders. Today, I joined @alsobrooks.senate.gov & Sandy Washington from LifeStyles of Maryland, Inc., in La Plata to highlight LifeStyles’ important work & the devastating impact of Republicans’ proposed cuts to Medicaid.
