After the House first passed the Big, Brutal Bill, my Republican colleagues said they hadn't even read what they voted on.
Today, I joined @repyassansari.bsky.social & my Democratic colleagues to read the entire bill aloud — so this time they won't be able to hide behind that same, pathetic excuse.
From the most progressive to the most conservative parts of my district I've heard the same things: no one wants rural hospitals to close, SNAP benefits to be cut, & energy prices to go up. But that's exactly what Republicans are about to do.
Why? So their wealthy donors can get ANOTHER tax break.

I just gave Republicans a chance to backtrack on the $1 TRILLION cuts to Medicaid in their budget bill. Every single one of them doubled down on their plans to deny their constituents life-saving health care and voted no.
You cannot overstate the cruelty of forcing through over $1 TRILLION of healthcare cuts in the DEAD OF NIGHT just to pay for tax breaks for the top 0.1% of earners.
Look, I got nothing against being wealthy. What I'm against is literally letting working folks die so the rich can get even richer.

We've said for months, this bill was blatantly cruel & could not stand. Now, it is also LITERALLY unconstitutional.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT:
❌ A provision to require local police work with ICE
❌ A provision to allow President Trump to eliminate, consolidate, and/or reorganize agencies without Congressional oversight
❌ A provision to restrict the power of labor unions that represent public servants
ENVIRONMENT:
❌ A provision to sell of public lands in western states
❌ A provision that would make it easier for natural gas companies to pay a fee to get expedited approvals for drilling
❌ A provision to remove any environmental review for new offshore drilling projects
MEDICAID:
❌ A provision to punish insurers that cover abortion
❌ A provision limiting Medicaid, Medicare, & ACA access for foreign students, green card holders, & immigrant workers
❌ A provision prohibiting Medicaid from covering gender-affirming care
Congressional Republicans are LOSING BIG in the Senate.
