I just met with local health care providers who confirmed: if Republicans let ACA premium tax credits expire, thousands of San Diegans will see HUGE increases in their health insurance costs and be forced to decide between medical treatment and rent. We can’t let that happen.
I was glad to meet with local nonprofit partners – including ASYMCA, SDMAC, STEP, Zero8Hundred, and Feeding San Diego – to discuss the impacts of the government shutdown on our service members and their families and how these organizations are stepping up to provide support.
It’s Day 16. Here’s the situation:
Democrats are fighting to lower health care costs for millions of Americans; House Republicans are fighting for the sake of fighting (and to block the Epstein Files…)
They still won’t negotiate. They won’t return to DC to vote. They’re MIA.
ICE isn’t going after criminals. They went after and deported the father of a U.S. Marine.
THIS is how you fight fascism: refuse to give in, refuse to play a role in state censorship, and refuse to give your leaders a free pass when your job is holding them accountable.
I’m proud to see nearly every media outlet reject this loyalty test.
Shutdown Day 15: Speaker Mike Johnson is STILL refusing to bring back House Republicans to Congress and negotiate to protect health care for Americans and reopen the government.
This isn’t business-as-usual military action – it’s murder. There was no public evidence, no due process, and no legal justification. Thoughtless action like this is how we wind up in endless wars and how our service members become targets. This is beyond shameful.
If Republicans let this happen, millions of Americans will be priced out of health care and be unable to afford chemo, insulin, heart medication, and more.

It is ILLEGAL to withhold back pay from federal workers.
Trump won’t do his own job but he wants to stiff people who do show up to work.
Air traffic controllers and TSA workers are being asked to go to work without guaranteed pay.
Meanwhile, President Trump and Republicans are failing to do their jobs and wasting time by refusing to negotiate with Democrats to protect health care and reopen the government.
Trump’s government shutdown means that right now, our service members are reporting for duty without pay – making it even harder for them to put food on the table.
While we work to re-open the government, the San Diego Food Bank is a great resource for anyone needing assistance.
It’s been an agonizing two years so I’m hopeful that this deal will bring all the hostages home, end the atrocities, and lead to an immediate rush of aid into Gaza. Too many lives have been lost already so I urge all parties to uphold this deal so we can end this horrific war.
