This Black April, we honor those who fought to defend democracy and human dignity and reflect on the many contributions the Vietnamese diaspora has made to California and to our country.
I remember volunteering with the Red Cross back in 1975 when the first wave of refugees were arriving in San Jose.
The fall of Saigon 51 years ago marked a turning point in world history, one that led to unimaginable hardship for the millions of Vietnamese who were displaced by a brutal communist regime.
This Republican Farm Bill doesn’t do anything to help the hungry Americans who had their SNAP benefits cut by the Big Ugly Law. When the price of food is nearing all-time highs, Congress can’t ignore Americans’ hardship - we must reverse these cuts.
I’ve introduced an amendment to the Farm Bill to include my bipartisan Farm Workforce Modernization Act. We need to fix our ag workforce shortage, and this is a commonsense reform that will provide more flexibility for employers while ensuring protections for workers.
Republicans couldn’t find money to spare for Americans’ healthcare, but they want to send another $70 billion to ICE on top of the $140 billion they already gave ICE last year.
I’m a no on this backwards budget.
- Enforce the same standards for behavior that every cop in America is held to
Renaming ICE won’t do anything to protect Americans from being brutalized by masked ICE agents. Let’s get serious about reforms:
- Get rid of the masks
- Require agents to display IDs and wear body cameras
- Require judicial warrants to enter private property
Today, we honor the 1.5 million lives lost to the Armenian Genocide of 1915 perpetrated by the Turkish government of the Ottoman Empire. 111 years later, it’s important to combat disinformation about this atrocity and defend the human dignity of all people.
This week, I met with Supervisor Ellenberg from Santa Clara County and CSAC leaders to discuss the Republican Big Ugly Law’s impact on localities & counties. I strongly opposed the record cuts to Medicaid & SNAP, and I’m fighting to undo the damage this bill has caused.
The clock is ticking. We are coming up on 60 days since Trump dragged America into a war with Iran, meaning the War Powers Act requires him to come to Congress for authorization.
Congress needs to finally end Trump’s costly war of choice.
Happy Earth Day! 🌱🌎
In Congress, I’m fighting back against attacks on our environment and introducing new bipartisan legislation today to support wildlife conservation.
I’m saddened by the passing of my colleague, David Scott from Georgia. We worked together during his time as House Ag Chair to support America’s farmers, ranchers, and farmworkers. My thoughts are with his family and his constituents at this time.
A new report shows Trump’s attacks on clean energy have spiked household electric bills by 13% nationally since he took office.
Democrats like @casten.house.gov, @levin.house.gov, and myself are supporting legislation that will reverse these attacks and lower Americans’ electricity costs.
🚨Trump’s Iran War has caused surging gas prices that will cut $1.1 billion from household income in Silicon Valley this year. It could also lead to 2,600 lost jobs as businesses are forced to cut costs.
Republicans need to grow a spine and end Trump’s illegal and costly war.
Trump’s disastrous and cruel immigration agenda has created a “judicial emergency” in California. Republicans need to work with Democrats in Congress to end this administration’s policies that are overwhelming our courts and depriving people of due process.
Gas prices have soared since Trump started his illegal war with Iran, yet Republicans in Congress this week once again refused to vote for the War Powers Resolution. We need to end this illegal and costly war.
