When I visited MDC Brooklyn, I requested to meet with Rafael. I wanted to make sure that he was safe & being treated humanely. I told him that I & many other New Yorkers – including Speaker Menin – continue standing with him. I join the Speaker & others in denouncing the decision to deport him.
I’m so grateful for their insight and spirit—and in Congress, I’ll keep fighting to make life better for every family in our community.
I stopped by Commonpoint Queens while I was home last week to check in with local seniors, update them on what I've been working on in DC, & answer questions! So many in our community are concerned about rising costs, the status of federal funding in our community, flooding, severe weather, & more.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I won’t support any measure that gives ICE a blank check to keep harming our communities.
I’m signing a discharge petition to force a vote to fund parts of DHS that don’t include ICE — agencies like TSA, FEMA, and the Coast Guard. This will keep our airports running and ensure federal workers get the pay they’ve earned, while we continue demanding accountability for ICE.
High School Artists: Join my Congressional Art Competition!🎨
I encourage students to submit artwork for the chance to see it featured in the US Capitol for one year!
Submissions must be dropped off at my office by Friday, April 17th. Questions? Call (718) 358-MENG.
In the richest country in the world, no one should have to take out a loan or skip meals to afford health care.
We need to extend ACA tax credits to give families some room to breathe.
I’m deeply grateful to the firefighters and first responders at the scene. My team and I have been in touch with the FDNY and city leaders. We stand ready to assist residents as they begin to recover from this tragedy. (2/2)
My heart breaks for our neighbors — especially the young child — who lost their lives in today’s tragic fire in Flushing. I’m praying for their families and loved ones during this difficult time. (1/2)
I stopped by PS23 in Queens this week to learn more about what our educators are doing to support the next generation in our community. I’m grateful for their hard work every day to help students in Queens learn and grow.
Some of my favorite things? Twizzlers, café con leche, and a good yard sale find!

Wonderful to meet students at PS41Q during civics week! I’m so proud to see young people engaged in their community and excited to take part in our democracy.
Americans shouldn't be forced to choose between health care and hunger.
They shouldn't have to put off having a family because they can't afford to see a doctor.
Let’s extend ACA tax credits—because everyone deserves the security to build their future, buy a home, or start a family.
Had a fantastic morning visiting classrooms at MS216Q and seeing their impressive technology program in action! It's inspiring to watch the next generation in Queens diving into STEM and discovering the fun in learning.
I join the American people in mourning and praying for the six American servicemembers who lost their lives in yesterday's KC-135 crash in western Iraq.
May their family members and loved ones find comfort in this difficult time, and may we honor their memories.
If our government is going after “the worst of the worst” and prioritizing public safety, why are our detention facilities full of people who are a threat to no one? (2/2)
I visited MDC Brooklyn to assess conditions at the federal detention facility and meet with ICE detainees, including City Council staffer Rafael Rubio and a constituent of mine from Queens. (1/2)
Republicans told us we couldn't afford expanded health care or food assistance, but look the other way when we spend $11.3 billion in one week on an unauthorized war?
I don't ever want to hear again that it's about the money.
I stopped by Korean Community Services in Corona! Always great catching up with local seniors and finding ways my team and I can support them.
I'm closely monitoring the reports of an active shooter Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan and I'm praying for the safety of worshipers, students, and staff.
I'm grateful for the first responders and their swift response to this terrifying scene as we continue to learn more.
