Thank you to our neighbors in Rockford who joined my town hall today! Hearing from you is the best part of my job. Looking forward to the next one!
I was so proud to champion the bill to rename the post office in his honor through the House, and eventually to President Biden’s desk to sign it into law. Capt. Nava’s legacy will never be forgotten.
Comstock Park was his beloved hometown, and we are fortunate to be able to give this special dedication to him, his wife, Ryann Nava, and his family in this town.
It was such an honor to host West Michiganders to rename the Comstock Park Post Office for Captain Miguel Justin Nava.
Captain Nava was a Marine Captain who died tragically in a helicopter crash while serving in San Diego, California, in February of last year.
Kent District Library Talking Book & Braille Center’s commitment to serving readers with visual, physical, or print disabilities is truly exceptional. It was no surprise that they were awarded the 2025 Subregional Library/Advisory and Outreach Center of the Year Award!
My experience as a social worker strongly influences my work in Congress, and I was honored to accept the SSWAA Award as Social Work Legislator of the Year.
Thanks to the GVSU students with Citizens Climate Lobby who are fighting for a better, greener future. I’m determined to protect Michigan’s water, air, and environment for generations to come, and it’s crucial to have our young leaders as partners in these efforts.
The PERMIT Act will make it easier for toxic and cancer-causing chemicals to enter our waters, and I spoke at Rules Committee to voice my strong opposition to it.
The preservation of America’s freshwater systems didn’t happen by coincidence — the Great Lakes were, in fact, once declared to be dead.
Fortunately, under the Clean Water Act, the State of Michigan consciously decided to take our precious waters into our own hands.
I've heard from countless West Michiganders who fear for their children's well-being if Medicaid funding is slashed. We must do better for these families. www.nytimes.com/2025/07/21/w...
I'm heartbroken and deeply concerned about the loss of innocent lives this weekend in Gaza. Innocent people seeking aid and food MUST be able to do so without harm as we work toward an end to this humanitarian crisis. www.reuters.com/world/middle...
I’m a firm believer in the promise of the American Dream, and LIBRE is breaking down barriers that prevent our Latino neighbors from achieving it. Thanks to the West Michiganders from LIBRE who are leading the way toward positive change for our Latino neighbors.
I’m especially proud that the bill will require USCG to develop a plan to acquire a domestic, Great Lakes icebreaker. I’ll never stop working for our Coasties.
This bill will bolster shoreside infrastructure, support acquisitions, increase benefits to Coasties, and ramp up recruitment — all to safeguard our maritime borders and respond to emergencies.
I am a fierce supporter of the USCG, and I was proud to champion the Coast Guard Reauthorization Bill through passage in @transportdems.bsky.social.
My mom spent her career as a special education educator, and I know firsthand how much these educators care for their students and their future successes. Great to meet with West Michigan special education educators today to reaffirm my support for their work to educate our youth!
My family loves having a backyard BBQ in the summer, but beef is getting more and more expensive at the grocery store, and the prices aren’t going down anytime soon.
It’s time we invest in our agriculture community. Instead, Trump has instituted chaotic tariffs that are making prices skyrocket.
What’s true and what’s a myth in H.R. 1? My Republican colleagues may not want you to know the truth. Let’s change that.
In this week’s episode of Straight Talk With Scholten, I dispel some of the myths being spread about H.R. 1 and dive deep into how it’ll impact you at home.
Watch here.
The American people deserve to know the truth — the WHOLE truth — not just a few “pertinent” files hand-selected by Trump and his Justice Department.
We will continue to put the pressure on until the full Epstein files are released.

Our work should be laser-focused on lowering costs at the grocery store and gas station, not defunding Sesame Street. In the dead of the night, Republicans voted to rip funding away from public media outlets like WGVU, a cornerstone of West Michigan’s local news.
I voted no.
