I did a recent spot inspection of ICE’s Krome detention center and found inhumane, overcrowded conditions.
Worse, nearly half the detainees have no criminal record, and many received no due process. This cruelty doesn’t make us safer.

Trump needs to wake up and stop playing footsie with Putin.
And America needs to back Ukraine against this ruthless, murderous dictator.
I spoke out after conducting oversight at Krome Detention Center, where nearly half of people detained have NO criminal record.
Trump is taking away the status of legal immigrants to subject them to inhumane conditions—and then send them back to dictators.
Democrats will bring accountability for Elon Musk’s reckless actions with DOGE.
But even he knows, the Big Ugly Bill – that rips health care from millions, explodes our debt, and makes the largest ever cuts to nutrition assistance – is a “disgusting abomination.”
Today’s vote begs the question: what top tier academic leader will subject themselves to the far-right fanatics running Tallahassee?
UF is vying to be the nation’s top public research university. Installing right-wing, unqualified partisans at the helm will only delay or derail that ascent.
Republicans are breaking our promise to America’s veterans, letting DOGE cut benefits and care they earned as they fire the most veterans in American history.

Words have consequences. Those consequences can be deadly.
In our polarized times, it’s critical we honor those who put service and sacrifice above self.
This year’s 11th grade recipients of my Citizenship Award for School and Public Service embody that spirit every day. I’m so proud to lift up this next generation of leaders. They're America’s best hope.
From Pulse to Parkland, too many lives are lost to gun violence. Sensible reforms can prevent this horrific pain.
During Gun Violence Awareness Month, let’s redouble our fight for safer communities and press Republicans to defend families, not gun lobbyists.
As Vice-Chair of the Equality Caucus, I’m ready to celebrate #PrideMonth2025 with South Florida’s LGBTQ+ community and will always challenge anti-equality policies that attack LGBTQ+ rights.
Happy Pride!
Small business owners drive our economy, but Trump’s tariffs hurts their bottom lines.
I was proud to host a small business workshop for South Florida entrepreneurs to help them naviagate starting and growing a business amid Trump’s chaos.

As the 20th Jewish American Heritage Month concludes, I'm so grateful to all those who joined me to celebrate how Jewish contributions brought us toward a more perfect union. And I was especially proud to join leaders from across the country at the annual JAHM reception in Washington.
Thanks to the Library of Congress Surplus Book Program and the incredible women of the Delta Sigma Theta South Broward Alumnae Chapter, together, we gifted the joy of books and reading to all the deserving children at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. ❤️📚🏥

They’re not criminals or even illegal immigrants. They came here legally. But Trump and the Republicans who bow to him could care less. Remember this and hold them accountable.
It’s sick and depraved to deport 500,000 people from Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela & Nicaragua who applied from home, passed background checks, earned work permits and paid their own way. 🧵1/2

I’m conducting oversight inside Krome Detention Center in South Florida right now. When I’m done, I’ll share what I saw in a Facebook live news conference. Please join me shortly.
Climate change is here, so I secured $500K in federal funds to raise flood-prone Hollywood streets. Mayor Josh Levy and Hollywood city leaders are hard at work on wider drain and street raising efforts. I just took a closer look at this critical resilience work.
