During the hearing, I got to relay concerns that I have and have also heard from my constituents about the VA being short-staffed and not having enough specialty care providers so that our veterans get the timely, quality care that they deserve.

Unfortunately, House Republican leaders are pushing to gut the GAO by 25% at a time when the public – as well as Democrats and Republicans in Congress – have mounting concerns about the conduct of the Administration – from unauthorized wars abroad to self-administered slush funds.
This week, we continued debate on fiscal year 2027 funding bills, including funding for the Government Accountability Office. This office has kept past administrations, both Democratic and Republican, in check and helped guide Congress to prevent fraud, waste, and abuse.

The amendment would help make sure that American families can afford to keep the lights on, farmers can operate, and local businesses can continue to function.
This would help make America more energy independent, maintain the electrical grid and help make sure it is reliable, and ensure that we are not relying on foreign adversaries for materials vital to manufacturing and technology that drive our economy.
During the debate, I tried to improve the bill by supporting an amendment that would increase the critical minerals and energy innovation fund and restore the electricity account.

As a result, American families and businesses are going to face higher fuel and utility costs and many communities will be left less safe.
It cuts programs that help us diversify our energy supply chain and make sure that America stays on the cutting edge of research and development, it undermines nuclear security, and it abandons communities dealing with nuclear contamination from past defense projects.

Yesterday, the House Appropriations Committee debated the FY 2027 Energy & Water Development funding bill. While it did a good job supporting Army Corps of Engineers projects which help many communities with vital waterways & flood mitigation, its shortcomings outweigh its positive elements.

I was glad to work with Democrats & Republicans to pass the funding bill covering Military Construction & Veterans Affairs for the upcoming, 2027, fiscal year. Quality of life is fundamental to military readiness, & this is a crucial investment in our installations, military families, & veterans.
Folks in these communities are working hard to grow and thrive. I will continue to fight for the federal programs that invest in and partner with Georgians as Congress works on appropriations for the upcoming fiscal year.
And in Albany, this federal investment will support neighborhood revitalization efforts, restore historic homes, and build new affordable workforce housing near Phoebe Putney hospital and the downtown area.
In Plains, these funds will help renovate public buildings along SR-280, including paving and lighting of the parking lot for the recently constructed multipurpose community center.
In Blakely and Early County, the funds will be used to improve the city’s water/wastewater system and upgrade the county’s regional 911 emergency services equipment.
Last week, I visited Blakely, Plains, and Albany to present those cities – and Early County – with ceremonial checks representing federal funds I secured in last year’s appropriations bills.
