She overcame asthma, a heart condition, and many other obstacles to achieve her goals. After her death at the young age of forty, Raines was dubbed “Georgia’s First Lady of Flight” and was inducted into the Georgia Women of Achievement in 1995.

She continued her dedication and service to the U.S. military in 1950, when she was the first female reserve pilot called into active service for the Korean War.
Raines became one of only twenty-five women chosen to fly with the British Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) during World War II, flying damaged aircraft back to repair stations. During the war, she logged the most flight hours of any ATA pilot and survived a plane crash.
As we celebrate Women's History Month, we remember Hazel Raines. She the first woman in the state of Georgia to earn a pilot’s license. Raised here in Macon and a graduate of Wesleyan College, she earned both a private and commercial pilot’s license.

We need to focus on investing in our local communities, small businesses, and infrastructure and providing stability so that we can make America more affordable again.
When it is more difficult for hard-working Americans to afford food, housing, healthcare, and education, it is more difficult for them to patronize and support America's farmers and businesses.
It is forcing rural hospitals, health clinics, and food banks to scramble and try to stay open as less people can afford care and food.
We also talked about other developments in the past year which have made it more expensive to live in rural communities, including last July's big, ugly bill which gut healthcare and nutrition programs in order to provide tax breaks for billionaires.
The haphazard and broad-reaching consequences of tariffs over the last year has hurt our ag producers, builders, grocers, mechanics, and businesses across the spectrum. The increased cost of doing business is increasing the cost of living for Georgia's families.
Last week, I met with the Dooly Chamber of Commerce. We discussed tariff volatility and its effect on trade. We spoke about why it is important that Congress has clear, statutory guidance over tariffs to ensure communities across America have a representative voice in these important matters.

Last week, I cast two solemn and important votes that spoke to our civil rights and security as well as upholding the U.S. Constitution. I wanted to share my thoughts with you the Homeland Security (ICE/CBP) funding bill and War Powers resolution.
This bill will help innovate and pioneer solutions to the challenges facing our country's agricultural producers.

Yesterday, Rep. Franklin (FL) & I introduced our bipartisan Land Grant Research Prioritization Act, H.R. 7734, which allows land grant institutions to apply for competitive USDA grants to support farm mechanization & agricultural AI applications, invasive species & aquaculture research initiatives.
I will continue to work in Congress so that military families have practical tools and trusted connections as they navigate one of the most important transitions of their lives.
On Wednesday, I met with veterans who work with Blue Star Families. During the meeting we discussed legislation on which I am working and will introduce that helps military families successfully transition to civilian life.
I am working to make sure Congress keeps investing in people to help them get the education and training, including apprenticeships, they need to find gainful employment in our communities.
Yesterday, I met with Eckerd Connects, which is the only non-profit that operates Job Corps centers nationwide, including Turner Job Corps Center in Albany, GA. I am the Co-Chair of the Congressional Job Corps Caucus with Representative Brett Guthrie (R-KY).
I look forward to seeing the creativity of our gifted 2nd Congressional District high schoolers and recognizing them for their hard work!
