We are putting USDA operations at risk while divesting the federal government of valuable and ideally situated real estate for pennies on the dollar.
I took the opportunity to ask the Director his thoughts on the Trump Administration’s plans to sell the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) South Building in DC. I am concerned that the Administration is moving too quickly without a clear plan in mind.

Finally, I asked about how OPM is working to reduce the growing backlog of federal worker retirement benefit claims. I appreciated hearing from Director Kupor and look forward to following up with him on these and other concerns.
Additionally, as a co-chair of the Congressional Military Families Caucus, I asked how OPM is ensuring reasonable accommodations for military spouses employed by the federal government.
I asked Director Kupor about funding for federal election observers, as stipulated by the Voting Rights Act, which report on election discrimination and report it to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Last week, I participated in a U.S. House Appropriations subcommittee hearing with the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Director, Scott Kupor as part of my regular oversight duties.

I will continue to work hard, including through the bipartisan Congressional HBCU Caucus, to support HBCUs as their students, faculty, and alumni help lead our nation in academia, industry, sciences, the arts and humanities, public service and more!
Although college enrollment numbers across the country are down, HBCU applications are up almost 30%, a testament to their excellence.
Georgia's Second Congressional District is home to two amazing HBCUs, Fort Valley State University and Albany State University. I know both the unique challenges these institutions face and the incredible opportunities they provide for their students.
I, myself, am a Morehouse graduate, and know firsthand the important role our HBCUs play in educating, training, and empowering the next generation of America’s leaders.
Last week, I had the opportunity to attend events and meetings alongside leaders and students in support of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
Instead, House Republican leaders, have said the House cannot vote on a bipartisan bill and instead insist on sending yet another bill to the Senate that cannot pass.

This morning, Senate Democrats and Republicans negotiated a solution to fund Homeland Security which passed by unanimous consent. Even President Trump was signaling that he was supportive of the bill. We could have ended the shutdown today!
As a powerful figure for progress, Lillian inspired a president and continues to be an inspiration to generations that have followed. From Plains, Georgia, to Godrej, India, her compassion touched the lives of many.
Much like her son, Lillian continued to serve the public long after her retirement. After completing her career as a nurse at age 68, Lillian joined the Peace Corps, where she worked in a clinic in India.
She played an active role in her son Jimmy's senate, governor, and presidential campaigns, where she gained nationwide recognition for her earnestness and Southern charm.
"Miss Lillian", as she was known, served in her local hospital, challenged the bigoted color barriers of the time, and raised four children with her husband James Earl Carter.
