Last night, the Senate voted unanimously to end the Republican shutdown of TSA, Coast Guard, and FEMA so these essential services can be restored and workers can be paid. ICE does not get another penny in this bill. 🧵

Today Manny from NW Oregon testified at a shadow hearing about the grim realities kids are experiencing because of Trump’s cruel and inhumane deportation agenda.
Thank you, Manny, for your courage. You are an inspiration to us all.
Equal pay for equal work. Period. @demwomencaucus.bsky.social
Court Appointed Special Advocates, CASA volunteers, are trained to advocate for the best interests of children who have experienced trauma or neglect.
I secured more than $1 million in Community Project Funding to support their important work.
Educators, students, and local leaders know that bringing AI into the classroom comes with risks. I'm partnering with them to develop a framework for AI in education that gives students and teachers the tools and safeguards they need so responsible AI use can expand opportunities, not widen gaps.
Thank you to @nickkristof.bsky.social for clearly explaining how that taxpayer money could be redirected to health care, education, and international aid.
While Americans face rising costs and economic uncertainty, the Trump administration is requesting an additional $200+ billion for their outrageous war with Iran. Experts say the cost will continue to balloon from there.
Ports are important infrastructure. I championed funding for the Port of Garibaldi, and presented them with $2 million in Community Project Funding. This investment will help the Port upgrade the sea wall to seismic standards to protect homes from flooding.
Donald Trump is trying to stop you from voting by mail, but that's what he just did in Florida. Good enough for him but not you? We must stop the SAVE Act.
Hearing from you informs the work I do in Congress to defend Oregon values and fight for a better future. Please stay in touch. You can contact me on my website, or call my office at 503-469-6010.
Thank you to everyone who came to my Multnomah County Town Hall Meeting!
This month I've held town hall meetings in Hillsboro, Scappoose, Tillamook, and Portland, and I heard consistently that costs are too high, ICE is out of control, and Oregonians don’t want another war. 🧵
While your health care costs continue to rise, Donald Trump is spending billions of your taxpayer dollars fighting an unpopular foreign war. We need healthcare, not warfare.
Instead, the President decided to deploy untrained ICE agents to airports to "fill the gap" while TSA workers continue to show up without pay. That’s dangerous and wrong. And it shows that ICE is overfunded if they have enough agents to stand around at airports.
The President and Congressional Republicans can and should end the DHS shutdown and pay TSA agents, FEMA, and the Coast Guard for the important work they do. 🧵
REMINDER: My Multnomah County Town Hall Meeting is TODAY at 6pm. I hope to see you there!
This means that student loan borrowers will have to navigate more bureaucracy and multiple agencies to apply for student loans and find affordable repayment options. We should be making it easier--not harder--for people to pursue higher education.
The Trump administration announced that they're moving many if not most of the student loan programs from the Dept Of Education to the Treasury, and it’s unlikely that they are also moving staff and expertise. 🧵
I stand with survivors and advocates like OCADSV (Oregon Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence) and I will keep fighting until survivors get the resources and the justice they deserve.
The Trump admin's attacks on resources for survivors of domestic and sexual violence are egregious and cruel. These programs are essential to the safety and stability of community members, but harmful anti-DEI language in funding restrictions are hurting survivors of sexual crimes. 🧵
Eid Mubarak to those celebrating Eid al-Fitr!
