NINE THOUSAND people who work for the FBI — either two thirds of their agents or one quarter of their entire staff — have been diverted to doing at least some immigration enforcement by the Trump administration.
NEW: Trump diverted >9,100 FBI personnel to work on immigration during the first 9 months of this term, per public records I obtained. He multiplied them by a factor of 23 - from 279 before he took office to >6500 by September. theintercept.com/2026/05/01/f...
Trump’s destructive immigration policies could cost the U.S. up to $479 billion in tax revenue over the next decade. Add in his massive tax cuts for the wealthy, and now the national debt has surpassed 100% of GDP. Complete fiscal negligence.
Experts estimate that the IRS stands to lose up to $479 billion over the next decade as immigrants face deportation and disengage from the formal economy. https://wapo.st/4vvl1pj
⛽ Average U.S. gas prices per gallon on May 1, per AAA ⛽ • Regular: $4.39 (⬆️ $0.09 from yesterday, ⬆️ $1.41 since war in Iran began on Feb. 28) • Premium: $5.24 (⬆️ $1.38 since war began) • Diesel: $5.57 (⬆️ $1.81 since war began)
It’s been 60 days since Trump started this war against Iran. But this war should've never should’ve happened, and it needs to end. Now. Under the War Powers Act, this administration is now required withdraw our troops or make their case and seek Congressional authorization.
House Republicans just caved after the longest shutdown ever. They blocked funding for FEMA, TSA, the Coast Guard, and the Secret Service for over two months, then backed down after getting nothing. Making us less safe while they make life more expensive—an awful way to govern.
Today's Supreme Court's ruling on the Voting Rights Act is yet another Republican attempt to hold onto power, suppress voters and erode America's democracy. This fight isn't over. Democrats will not let Republicans turn back the clock and undo our country's progress.
This ruling is appalling, but we are not powerless in the face of it. Congress should respond by banning gerrymandering nationally. This nakedly partisan opinion from the Court's conservative majority is yet another compelling reason to reform the Court. 3/3
Their decision today will pave the way for Republican leaders in southern states to disenfranchise Black voters at the federal level but also in state legislatures and local governments. Another desperate attempt to hold onto power. 2/
Hegseth gutted the team meant to prevent civilian death. One of the first strikes in this war hit an elementary school. And President Trump continues to threaten Iranian civilians and infrastructure. This administration isn’t minimizing civilian harm.
HEGSETH: I know that there is no country on planet earth that takes more measures to ensure that civilian harm or casualties are minimized than the United States of America and this War Department. And that is a fact. TOKUDA: You eliminated the department's civilian harm reduction staff
For many species, the Endangered Species Act is the difference between extinction and survival. Last week, House Republicans chose Earth Day to try to gut it, but they didn’t have the votes. This is a win for wildlife, but it’s not the end of our fight!
This is just horrid and cruel. After racing to hand out massive tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans, the Trump administration is now looking to punish disabled Americans for relying on family support.
NEW: A rule change pushed by White House officials would slash benefits or end support for as many as 400,000 Supplemental Security Income recipients with Down syndrome, dementia and other disabilities whose parents or relatives receive SNAP benefits.
