Trump gutted the State Department’s Energy Bureau, firing the experts needed to handle the crisis he helped create by dragging our country into an illegal war. Gas now costs more than $4 a gallon. We're demanding they rehire the professionals who can fix this. Now.
TAPPER: When do you think it's realistic for Americans to expect that gas will go back below under $3 a gallon? CHRIS WRIGHT: I don't know. That could happen later this year. That might happen until next year. But prices have likely peaked.
Time and time again, Pete Hegseth has put petty vendettas and his extremist personal ideology ahead of the best interest of servicemembers or national security. In a sane world he never would have been confirmed, he should be out of a job.
Since taking office last year Pete Hegseth has ousted at least 21 generals. “He’s a 12-year-old boy with a set of army action figures who likes to play war,” sighs one former military official
What’s described here is the attempted desecration of America’s premier cultural institution, and a disturbing extension of this Administration's pay-to-play corruption. This demands real oversight, and I'm fighting in Congress to protect our beloved Kennedy Center.
Josef Palermo spent 10 months working at the Kennedy Center because he wanted to help protect it. He reports from inside the "hostile political takeover" of the nation’s cultural center:
We’ve seen the failures of Kash Patel’s inept leadership play out again and again in some of our most high profile investigations since last January. None of this reporting is surprising, but it is alarming. Patel is unfit to lead and is putting our national security at risk.
Kash Patel’s colleagues are alarmed by what they say is erratic behavior and excessive drinking, Sarah Fitzpatrick reports. More than two dozen people she spoke with described his management failures and conduct that could harm national security. theatln.tc/SS6krazR
It was great to have so many Northern Virginia families join us for Passport Day today and take advantage of an easy, accessible process to get their passports taken care of.
The FCC was designed to be an independent body, not a tool for MAGA allies to target journalists and comedians. Brendan Carr has repeatedly proven he is not fit to be Chairman and should resign or be fired immediately.
Internal emails obtained by WIRED reveal how a conservative legal group with a direct line into FCC chairman Brendan Carr’s office built the case against Jimmy Kimmel and his employees. www.wired.com/story/the-fc...
Yesterday’s announcement of a 10-day ceasefire is a step in the right direction, particularly because it includes Lebanon, a critical gap that undermined previous efforts. 11/11
Nonetheless, we still have a responsibility to limit further damage and chart a more responsible path forward, and there are reassuring signs of a possible off-ramp. 10/
Regardless of how this latest chapter ends, the even more hardline Iranian regime is now more incentivized to develop a nuclear weapon in secret. They have also demonstrated a willingness and ability to inflict significant harm on the global economy to achieve their goals. 9/
That agreement contained tensions and ensured that waterways like the Strait of Hormuz remained open and secure. At the time, many warned that abandoning this agreement would leave war as the only plausible and far less preferable alternative. Tragically, those warnings proved prescient. 8/
It's also worth remembering that this war did not emerge in a vacuum. During his first administration, President Trump withdrew from a diplomatic agreement negotiated by the Obama Administration that had successfully halted Iran’s nuclear program. 7/
Our key allies were not consulted before President Trump chose to wage this war, and his unhinged rhetoric and disregard for its broader impact has led to an unprecedented rise in anti-American sentiment around the globe. 6/
The closure of the vital Strait of Hormuz and strikes on energy infrastructure in the region have also led to devastating consequences for the global economy which have only begun to manifest. 5/
The strategic costs also continue to mount. U.S. stockpiles of critical munitions are now dangerously low, and Iranian counterattacks have caused tens of billions of dollars in damage to American military assets. 4/
The human toll alone has been staggering. 13 American servicemembers have been killed in action, with hundreds more wounded – many with serious injuries, and thousands more civilian across the region losing their lives. 3/
We must pursue an agreement to end all hostilities is the best course of action, but we must recognize that some of the damage caused by this war is irreversible, and that we will be dealing with the consequences of these decisions for decades to come. 2/
Despite Republicans' refusal to support a War Powers Resolution to end this war, I'm encouraged that the American people’s rejection of this war seems to have spurred President Trump to pursue a durable resolution. Ending this reckless war in Iran is a moral imperative and the best path forward.
