Trump and his Republican allies who continue to embrace the politics of hate, division, and chaos are wildly out of step with what the American people want. They will keep suffering more defeats until they listen.
Stephen Miller embodies the worst elements of the Trump presidency. His promotion shows that Trump has learned nothing from his electoral debacle and has no intention of even trying to work constructively with the next Congress.
Miller is also the "brains" behind the illegal, extrajudicial murders of people in the Caribbean and the Pacific, many of whom may have done nothing wrong. He promised that Trump would focus on the economy and avoid new wars, and then became a defender of his attacks on Iran and other countries.
At Miller’s direction, peaceful, law-abiding people have been seized from their families and imprisoned or deported, and American citizens have been beaten up and even killed by masked paramilitary thugs.
Trump’s elevation of Stephen Miller to White House Chief of Staff doubles down on the politics of hatred, lawlessness, and failure that the American people soundly rejected three days ago.
I will do everything in my power alongside my colleagues in the Democratic majorities just elected to the next Congress to ensure that this wasteful, disrespectful monstrosity goes nowhere.
But this fight is not over. While this decision prevents Donald Trump from immediately implementing his plans to create a monument to his own ego, the courts and Congress must put in place permanent safeguards to stop the Trump Administration from violating the law and proceeding with this project.
Her injunction will properly restrain Trump’s rush to ignore and bypass the legal barriers, overwhelming opposition from the people most affected, and glaring evidence of irreparable harm to national treasures like Arlington National Cemetery - all the things this administration is wrongly ignoring.
Americans across the country just elected a Congress that won't be afraid to stand up to Donald Trump. We won't back down, and we won't let him turn our capital's most hallowed sites into a monument to himself.
The American people have had enough. People want a Congress that will listen to them, work for them, and fix their problems, rather than catering to the insane whims of a mad king. Democrats will answer that call. My statement on last night's election results:
Today, I met Anne, who traveled all the way from Honolulu to speak out against Trump's proposed arch. She's joining many of us later this week to testify before the National Capital Planning Commission's vote. People across the country are standing together to stop this, and we will.

As Congress is confronted by complex issues ranging from cybersecurity to AI and more, our bill would restore and update the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment to provide a crucial internal source of expertise and counsel.
Happy Election Day! Decisions in a democracy are made by the people who show up. Don’t sit this one out. Make your voice heard and make a plan to vote today! Polls are open until 7 pm tonight. Find your polling location online at vote.virginia.gov.
