Democrats stayed united and put up a fight to make it difficult for this to get done even though the Republicans have a trifecta.
But it's not the last step. We still have opportunities to slow and obstruct the cuts, which millions of Americans are depending on us to do.

I want to take a step back for a moment to put this week’s budget resolution vote into context for all of you.
It was the first step that Trump needs to enact his cruel, pro-billionaire agenda.

Trump banned the Associated Press from the White House.
DOGE has been at Social Security since last week. They’re firing employees and closing offices across the country.
I don't care what Trump said on the campaign trail. They are coming after Social Security. It’s a display of utter contempt for the families who depend on it.
I’m sickened to see Republicans unify around selling out their own constituents.
As Democrats we ALL voted no. So this is on them. Remember that.
Republicans passed their budget which provides $4.5 trillion in tax cuts for the rich but does nothing to lower costs for the rest of us. It’s a kick in the teeth to working people to give the ultra-wealthy another unneeded break.
Trump and Elon don't want to use government as a tool to support Americans and make our country more affordable. No. They are using government to give handouts to their billionaire friends and push our democracy to the brink.
This tells me the White House is well aware that the American people do not support what Trump and Elon are doing.
The president controlling which reporters can get access to him is another backslide into authoritarianism. It's a classic Putin move. Make some noise about this.
Today, the House is voting on a budget to fund the government.
It slashes SNAP and Medicaid to pay for a $4.5 trillion tax cut for the rich. Yes — that's trillion with a T.
When I vote NO, I'll be thinking of working people in Vermont who sent me here to make their lives better. Not harder.
American democracy is an experiment. A 200+ year old experiment that takes all of us to uphold.
$14,881,336 has been stolen from farmers in Vermont by Musk and Trump.
The disrespect has been shocking but this is now full on contempt.
All it takes is 3 Republicans to join us and leave behind the silence and complicity. We must call out Musk on his harassment of the civil servants who keep our country running.
