Just got another hardworking young man with no criminal record (who came in 'the right way) out of Karnes Detention Center. President Trump, you'll be in San Antonio on Wednesday. Come see the Dilley Trailer Prison that traumatizes young children.
Texans know Big Bend is one of our greatest natural treasures. And it belongs to all of us. It's great news that a federal judge halted construction of Trump's reckless border wall that would run through it.
Breaking: A judge on Friday blocked further border barrier construction in the Big Bend region. The ruling means federal contractors can’t continue construction in the national park or surrounding areas until a lawsuit opposing the work is resolved.
Trump is coming to San Antonio Wednesday. I invited him to the Dilley Trailer Prison. He should face the children he’s traumatizing. Can the president look these innocent children in the eyes and tell them they deserve to be there?
Last month, I motioned to subpoena the Trump Administration for records regarding its deal with Venezuelan businessman Alejandro Betancourt for Venezuelan oil. This week, we were able to secure a limited set of documents from the administration regarding this shady deal.
Wilber Garcés Pérez still has a bullet lodged in his back after being shot by an ICE agent. He is finally scheduled for surgery today. But ICE is refusing to let his wife be by his side. My office is pushing for her to be allowed there to support him. ICE has done enough to torment this family.
Settlers are driving Palestinians from their homes in a violent land grab. Sanctions can stop it. I'm introducing legislation—alongside Reps. Dean, Beyer, Casar, Jacobs, Escobar—that imposes sanctions against anyone looking to take Palestinian land in the West Bank or Gaza.
Update on Pedro Mendoza Chávez: While he was in the hospital, ICE refused to let his wife see or speak to him, and an officer told her he had fallen. Pedro, 63, says agents kicked him to the ground. Instead of being in a hospital, he's at an ICE detention facility in Taylor, Texas.
Pedro Mendoza Chavez was caught up in ICE’s dragnet in San Antonio, leaving him hospitalized with a head injury that required stitches. His wife has no idea where he is and has not been able to speak with him. My office is in contact with his family, and we will continue monitoring his case.
Trump's mass deportation campaign is tearing apart communities across the country. Texas ranks 4th in the nation for ICE arrests, and San Antonio is being hit hard. Now ICE wants to open a warehouse on our East Side to be run by the same company behind Alligator Alcatraz.
Garnet Coleman represented his Houston community and stood up for Texans whose voices too often went unheard. His legacy lives on in protecting children's Medicaid, CHIP, the Sandra Bland Act, and his lifelong fight for better mental health care.
Spring 2027 internship applications are officially open! We're looking for college students and recent grads to join our San Antonio and Washington, D.C. offices and help serve the people of our community. I'm excited to work with the next generation of leaders.

The way ICE has treated Wilbur Garcés Pérez amounts to torture. All of this with a bullet lodged in his back and unable to move the left side of his body. Tomorrow I will visit Wilber with Congressman Greg Casar and report back on his condition.
Despite losing movement on his left side and having a bullet lodged next to his spine, ICE has forced Wilber Rafael Garcés Pérez out of the hospital and back to the South Texas ICE Processing Center in Pearsall, Texas. It is nothing more than a prison.
Update on the condition of Wilber Rafael Garcés Pérez at the South Texas Ice Processing Center. He’s being taken to the hospital. He is in tremendous pain and tells us that the bullet is still inside his left side. He can’t move the left side of his body.
